Now, it's time to go there! Ever wondered what Angel Grove, California looked like? Well, you can see for yourself this summer, in the second annual meeting of the Internet Power Ranger fans. And, by the way, if you're in New Jersey or New York (or can get there), you *might* have a one-day TAGJ in April. However, this is very slim. But, if something comes up, I will let you all know! I don't know what we'll be doing. We'll either go to Disneyland, Magic Mountain, or both. I don't want to make it as long as the first one was, because then people will have to pay for hotel expenses. However, if it's too short, the people who fly in will be disappointed that they spent all that money for a one-day thing. I need to work the kinks out, and I need to know who's interested and what they'd like to do. We'll also go see "Hamlet", a production starring Paul Schrier and Jason Narvy. We'll most likely meet up with the JNAS (Jason Narvy Appreciation Society) there, but they'll probably be TAGJers. So far, I know we're going to "Hamlet" and Disneyland and/or Magic Mountain. If people want it to be a longer trip, we'll add more stuff to the agenda. But, right now, I'm trying to make it a two-day, one-night thing, so people won't have to lose too much money on the hotel bill. We'll also go to "Angel Grove Park" and see the front of "Angel Grove High". Who knows what else we might see and do in Valencia? By the way, if all goes right, we can have a pie fight at Angel Grove Lake. It was supposed to happen last time, but we forgot... =) This time, we will probably film the trip and make it into our "TAGJ2 home video"! After the trip, I will mail you all a copy of it. All this fun and more...as a thank you for being a Power Ranger fan. We'll show the world that Rocky isn't the only one who just wants to have fun! *Everyone* is invited. Take some friends...bring some relatives. And, for anyone who works for the show, you're welcome, too! If you're interested in taking the Angel Grove Journey 2 (or TAGJ2 for short), e-mail me at Marx@aol.com. All you need to do is be in Southern California this summer and get ready to meet a bunch of other Power Ranger fans and have a *very* fun time. All you need to do is send me with an e-mail with "I WANNA BE A TAGJER!" in the subject. If you find out you *can* come, I will keep you updated on the trip and supply some tips on how to save money and I'll tell you about some of the surprises that I'm planning. If you can be in Southern California, ask me for more details. The trip will be sometime in early July. The trip will be anywhere from two days to four days. It depends on who's interested and their schedule. So, get ready to have a morphinomenal time on TAGJ2...the fun is on next summer! ************************************************************************** **** THE SCOOP ON THE SOUNDTRACK by Ron Kenan Dear PRZNL members: In no small part because of the great effort by all you fans and the e-mail campaign to release another Mighty RAW album, I made the next movie soundtrack album for all the fans of the music and artists of the TV series. Of 14 songs, 12 will be series artists. Songs 9-14 are all previously unreleased Power Rangers ZEO songs which are not likely to be in the movie. I included them on the record because it's the only way for you can buy them. The record will come out March 18th on Mercury Records/Saban Records. The songs are as follows: 1. "Shift Into Turbo" by fulflej (A great act on Scratchie Records - The Smashing Pumpkins' new label.) This will also be the radio single. 2. "Power Rangers Turbo, Go!" by Super Power featuring Jim Cushineri (Jim, as you know, is the voice of all the recent songs recorded since The Mighty RAW.) This is the new series and movie theme song. 3. "Hope For The World" by The Mighty RAW (He's back with a great new song.) 4. "Turbo Time" by Ellen ten Damme (A great Mercury Holland singer who recorded a new track for me last month in Holland.) 5. "Invincible", a new song written by Jeremy Sweet (He wrote many PR, SVH & VRT songs) and performed by Jim of Super Power. 6. "Unite!" (Another new one from The Mighty RAW.) 7. "Let's Rock 'N Roll" by Super Power (Another Jeremy Sweet song.) 8. "Freewheelin'" by 00-Spies featuring Rick Hromadka (You may have heard this one on PR & SVH eps). Rick also sang many SVH & VRT songs and is featured on the SVH soundtrack album. 9. "Big Bang" by Super Power. 10. "Power Rangers ZEO" by ZEO (featuring Brian Yaskulka) and The Mighty RAW. 11. "Go Gold Ranger" by Super Power. 12. "Enemies Beware" by Super Power. 13. "Here Comes The Power Again" by Super Power. 14. "Calling For A Hero" by Super Power. Based only on the songs you already know, this record ROCKS! The new stuff is even better. Don't hesitate calling the record stores to let them know you're waiting for the record and spread the word to your friends. Thanks for being fans of our music. You make it very rewarding for all the writers, artists, and producers who create all this great music. Shift Into Turbo! ************************************************************************** **** PRZ POLLS #22, #23, #24 PRZ POLL #22: What's In A Name? (#1) I am thinking of changing the name of the newsletter. Here are the options. 1. Keep it the same (PRZNL) 2. The Angel Grove Chronicles (After the paper seen in "Doomsday") 3. The Angel Grove Gazette (The paper seen in the later episodes) 4. The Angel Grove Chronicles, the Power Rangers Zeo Newsletter 5. The Angel Grove Gazette, the Power Rangers Zeo Newsletter 6. Other ___________________________________________ Throughout two years of writing the issues, I have gotten a lot of compliments from members. Between long gaps of no newsletters, people begged me to send more issues since "the newsletters were all they had to tell what day it is", and "I am dying to read my favorite magazine!" People have even joked about making a Marx Okman fan club, and once, somebody did make one. And, I was just wondering, "Who is the biggest fan of the Power Rangers newsletter?" Do you think you are? Well, here's what you've got to do. Write a short essay on why you think you are the biggest Power Ranger fan. What have you done to show your support? How much do you know about the newsletters? How much have the newsletters changed your life? The winner will be announced in the 100th issue, and will receive a special prize. So, if you think you are the biggest fan of the newsletter, say so! Entries must be received by January 27th. Everybody's hard work will be acknowledged. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PRZ POLL #23: What's In A Name? (#2) Okay, the Star Trek fans are called the Trekkies. The Lois & Clark fans are called FoLCs (Fans of Lois & Clark). The Jewel fans are called the EDAs (Every Day Angels). But, what are the Power Ranger fans? We need a name for ourselves! The winning name and winner will be announced in the 100th issue, and the name will be used to refer to ourselves in issues from then on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PRZ POLL #24: Suggestion Box Which columns do you think are unnecessary? Which needs changes? Give your constructive criticism, and maybe your good ideas will be seen in later issues. ************************************************************************** **** THE 1996 POWER RANGERS ZEO NEWSLETTER AWARDS! In 1996, a total of 60 episodes of "Power Rangers" aired (third season episodes from "Alien Rangers of Aquitar, Part I" all the way through fourth season episodes leading up to "A Season To Remember"). So much happened in those episodes that probably deserves some kind of notice, so it's time to bring back the Oscars or Emmys of PRZNLdom... the second annual "Power Rangers ZEO Newsletter Awards." The awards will find out what stood out in the hearts and minds of PRZNL members last year. Any episodes aired in 1996 qualify. So make your choices, and choose them well. Here are the categories.... 1. Best Regular Actor or Actress on "PRZ": 2. Best Villain: 3. Best Episode: 4. Best "Guest Star": 5. Best Plot Device: 6. Best Outfit Worn By A Ranger: 7. Ugliest Outfit Worn By A Ranger: 8. Stupidest (As In Intelligence) Monster: 9. Worst Plot Device: 10. Worst Episode: 11. Best Special Effects: 12. Best Line: 13. Best info. from PRZNL: Results of this poll will be unveiled in the Power Rangers Zeo Newsletter #100, so that means you have a few more weeks to think it over! Send your poll responses to Marx@aol.com! ************************************************************************** **** SABAN SIGHTINGS! Jason David Frank has been on several episodes of "Sweet Valley High", as a rock star named A.J. who Jessica has a crush on. * Thanks to various members for this info. osiris@idir.net reports that Sophia Crawford's stalker was talked about on "American Justice" a few weeks ago. It included some backstage footage of her in the Pink Ranger costume and the movie. On 1/15/97, wyre@gte.net saw the Turbo Rangers on "Inside Edition" and "Showbiz Today" when they went to the N.A.P.P.Y convention in New Orleans. On 1/18/97, LLinkjr@aol.com saw the episode of "Night Court" where Richard Genelle (Ernie) was an extra, repeat. Dennis Deveaux reported that on the 1/19/97 episode of "Inquiring Minds", a viewer e- mailed about quicksand. They wanted to know if it was real and if a person could get "sucked in". When they went to demonstrate quicksand, a Red Ranger movie figure was used to demonstrate. On the 1/20/97 episode of "Cosby", Bill Cosby wins a chance at a basketball game to make the million dollar shot. On his way down from the stands, a boy wearing a Power Rangers T-shirt runs behind him. * Thanks to kbickford@mail.utexas.edu for this sighting. Loretta Jean, who played Aisha's grandmother, was on the bus in "Speed". * Thanks to brandj@vivanet.com for this sighting. A little boy is wearing a Blue Ranger costume while trick-or-treating in "Grumpier Old Men", according to siak.1@osu.edu ************************************************************************** **** DID YOU KNOW... ... that Jason David Frank's martial arts school is going out of business? ... that "Karate Kids", the episode of "Family Matters" that Jason David Frank and Jeff Pruitt were on -- and that Sophia Crawford and I were in the audience during the taping of, is going to repeat on Friday, January 24th? Don't miss it! ... that Brad Hawkins' singing career is taking off and he is going on tour across the country promoting his new album which is scheduled to be released soon? Fans can write him at : The Brad Hawkins Fan Club; 1025 N. Central Expressway; Suite 300-210; Plano, Texas 75075-8806 ... that I found a hidden joke in the newest Big Bad Beetleborgs episode? In "The Curse of Mum's Tomb", Roland says 'Hey, it's Skullhead from Issue 137". I wondered why they went from issue "13, 14, etc." to issue "137". The reason? In entertainment, episodes are listed season (in this case, 1) and then episode number (37 for this episode). "The Curse of Mum's Tomb" was episode 137! :) ... that the fifth answer to the trivia answer revealed last issue was Phoenix, not Pharaoh? Sorry for the mistake. ... that I proved once again that nobody's purfict? SON GORYU@aol.com pointed out that the correct title for Issue #97 should have been "If you don't like it, then take a hike, the Power Rangers were doing just fine before you showed up!" ************************************************************************** **** REVIEW ON "POWER RANGERS ZEO VS THE MACHINE EMPIRE" by Scott A. Alario (Ninjor6590@aol.com) with help from Marx Okman I got the "Power Rangers Zeo vs. The Machine Empire" CD Rom for Christmas, and I'd like to tell you all about it... The game is overall pretty good. The graphics are cool. The thing about it is that they dubbed new voices for Machina, Zordon, and Mondo. But, the new voices are pretty cool. The game itself looks like it could have been a Japanese Oh Ranger game, because in the booklet the cast of characters are ALL Japanese. They also made a lot of errors on the Ranger's bios, like saying that the Gold Ranger is Zeo Ranger IV. And, in the beginning, Mondo "relieves them of their Zeo Crystals" and then somehow scatters them over the Globe, yet the Rangers are still morphed throughout the whole thing. Anyway, there are seven levels, and you can be any Ranger, including Gold! But, you can't be Gold Ranger until after you've beaten a couple of levels. The game works with a game controller, but both it has slow reaction. So, if your fighting a Cog, it takes awhile to react. At first it was hard, but it became easy. This game is way better then the original SNES games! Overall, I loved this game. ************************************************************************** **** NICE TO MEET YOU E-MAIL ADDRESS: mdt195@soton.ac.uk REAL NAME: Michelle D Tomlinson BIRTHDATE: 11/19/76 CURRENT RESIDENCE: Southampton, UK FAVE EPISODES: "Green With Evil, Parts I-V" FAVE QUOTE: "You ooze, you lose!" - Billy ************************************************************************** **** TOP TEN LIST by Satu Sharp (sana@thehub.com.au) Here they are! When at the cinema, throw popcorn at people who laugh at the Power Ranger movie preview (i.e. everyone) 3. Save up $3,000 to go on the Angel Grove Journey only to have their parents ban the idea. 2. Tell everyone Catherine Sutherland is their cousin and dare anyone to prove otherwise. And, the number one thing that Australian Power Ranger fans do to pass the time is: WRITE TOP TEN LISTS ABOUT WHAT AUSTRALIAN POWER RANGER FANS DO TO PASS THE TIME. ************************************************************************** **** PRZ POLL #21 [RESULTS!] Only two people got more than one vote -- Alicia Silverstone and Chris O'Donnell. I voted for them before Blankchk99@aol.com sent his results, but they matched. I chose Alicia because I was thinking of someone who would be good in high school situations and I had just seen "Clueless" the previous day. Plus, she's playing Batgirl in the new movie and that's a physical superhero role. As for Chris O'Donnell, I had just seen a preview for his new movie and he was all I could think of. Plus, he played Robin in "Batman Forever", so it was a physical superhero role, just like Alicia. Which celebrity would make a good Ranger? Q: What is a Logie Award? -- TIMO82@aol.com A: It's an Australian entertainment award. Q: In the "Tenga Bye-Bye" lyrics, you put "Ugly ugly birdies in the sky", but it's "Happy, happy birdies in the sky". I have Closed Captioning. -- WhiteTi120@aol.com A: Well, Closed Captioning is not always right. The writer of the song gave me a copy of the lyrics. Q: You never said Amy Jo Johnson will be in the next movie. Will she be? A: Yep. Sorry, I forgot to include her on the list. Q: Why is David Yost's name on the new episodes credits right after Austin? Is David returning to the series? A: No. I guess Saban thought it was a waste to make a brand new set of credits for about three episodes, since he was changing them for Turbo Rangers anyway. ************************************************************************** **** CHAT UPDATE Remember, chats will ALWAYS be on Sundays at 5:00 pm (PST)/8:00 pm (EST) in private room PRZNL.
