Troopers... 10. The music for the Rangers is better. 9. The Rangers have Alpha 5. 8. The Rangers don't have a talking dog that does bad Jack Nicholson impressions. 7. The Rangers made it to the silverscreen. 6. Everyone's trying to make an appearance on the Power Rangers. Isn't that right, Ms. Sarah Brown? 5. One word: Kimberly. 4. "It's morphin time" isn't as much of a tongue twister for little kids as "Trooper Transform". 3. The Rangers have two human nit-wits (Bulk and Skull), instead of just one (Percy) 2. Zordon (even though he's just a floating head) could kick Professor Hart's digitized butt in less than a minute. And, the number one reason that Power Rangers is better than V.R. Troopers is... THE POWER RANGERS ARE STILL IN PRODUCTION. ************************************************************************** **** STRETCH Last week's stretch word was "telephone". The winner was: Telephones have the emergency number 911 posted next to them. 911 can be used to call the police. Bulk and Skull are Junior Police Officers. -- Bricks Winzer MY STRETCH: A telephone is used to communicate with others, communicators are used to communicate with others, the Power Rangers uses communicators. Today's stretch word is "doorbell". ************************************************************************** **** T.J. ROBERTS -- UNMASKED! [PART TWO] TALKING WITH T.J., THE MASKED RIDER From the September 1996 issue of "Tutti Frutti": Who is that Masked Rider? It's none other than T.J. Roberts! The guy behind that costume every Saturday morning is a martial arts expert, a dedicated actor, and a very handsome face! We spoke with T.J. and asked him everything you'd want to know! Check out our exclusive interview! TUTTI: Tell us, what does T.J. stand for? T.J.: Ted Jan! TUTTI: Does anyone call you Ted or has it always been T.J.? T.J.: My mom and dad call me Ted but, when I'm on the set or out doing business, everyone calls me T.J. TUTTI: Tell us a little bit about your character on The Masked Rider. T.J.: Well, I play two characters. One is Dex, he's the human; and then there is the Masked Rider who is a superhero. My main purpose for being here is to save the planet from my uncle who wants to take it over. TUTTI: Besides the fact that your character is from outer space and you are from Earth, are you anything like him? T.J.: I'm very much like my character because I want to help kids and be a good role model for them. The Masked Rider's main purpose is to be a good role model for kids and to tell them not to do drugs, not to get into fights, listen to their parents, do good in school, things like that. So I would say we're very much alike. TUTTI: We hear you're a karate expert! T.J.: I started martial arts when I was very young, I was seven years old. My dad was into karate too. He was one of Chuck Norris' old black belts from the '70s, before Chuck became a movie star. So my dad primarily got me into martial arts for the discipline and the exercises. It's good for the mind and the body all around. I got my black belt when I was 12 years old, and that's when I decided I wanted to move to Los Angeles to be an actor. I finally convinced my family to move, I bugged them to death! My dad made an audition reel for me, and it was the hardest thing I ever had to go through! It was harder than any producer or director I ever worked with. He was really tough! TUTTI: What happened next? T.J.: Well, we moved to Los Angeles, and I got really lucky! The first couple of weeks I was there, I got a guest spot on Married With Children. A couple of weeks after that, I went after this film called The Magic Kid, auditioned for it, landed the part and then they signed me for three more pictures! It all happened so fast! TUTTI: What advice would you give to kids who want to become actors? T.J.: Make sure you really, really want to do it, because it's a very tough business! There's a lot of competition so make sure you never give up. If you stick to something and never give up your dreams, you'll get it one day! TUTTI: Great! Thanks T.J.! T.J.: Thanks! And thanks to all the fans for their support and letters! ************************************************************************** **** PRZ POLL #13 Today's poll is "What would you like to see in the newsletter?" What columns, what changes? What can go in "Music Box" if it returns? Your suggestion counts... ************************************************************************** **** ASK MAX Q: Why do you have such a negative attitude towards David Yost? A: Don't get me wrong. I am a very big fan of David's, and think he is very talented. But, everytime I talk to a stunt double, they always say that he's a jerk with an attitude. I don't know if he's like that just for the stunt doubles or just for the people working on the show. I heard he was pretty nice to fans, but anyone who was working behind the scenes with him was not his concern. I found it too coincidental to get several complaints about him from people behind the scenes, so that's why I stressed this info. But, I'll try to tone it down on request. Q: A writing team is billed as "Buzz Alden & charlotte". What are their real names? A: Norma Sakimoto has informed me that their real names are Steven Melching and Charlotte Fullerton. They wrote both "Along Came A Spider" and "Instrument of Destruction". Q: Is there really such a place as Angel Grove, CA? A: No, but there's a Garden Grove, CA and there's an Angel Grove, FL. Q: What is TAGJ? A: TAGJ stands for the Angel Grove Journey. It was introduced last January, then called the California Fun Trip. The members of the newsletter were invited on a trip to Magic Mountain, Disneyland, Raging Waters, Hollywood, and some areas where Power Ranger films. Some of the "Young Rangers" are coming along. However, the trip is in a week so I don't think anyone can start planning that quickly. For more info. on TAGJ, go to http://www.afn.org/~afn45072/tagj.htm Q: Is Zordon named after the Zords, or are the Zords named after Zordon? -- BenSchumin@aol.com A: They aren't named after each other. Zordon was originally known as Zoltron. Later, his name was changed to Zordon, so I guess you can say he was named after them. Q: I noticed that some time during the first season, Zordon's actor changed from David Fielding to Bob Manahan. Since Zordon looked the same with either actor, was it the same face with different voices, or simply a case of the two looking alike? -- BenSchumin@aol.com A: I think David Fielding originally did the face and the voice and then left, and was replaced by Bob (who is a member of the newsletter, and signed up to go on TAGJ). I know that Bob does the voice, but I'm not sure about the face. Q: Did Scorpina have an episode where she left or did she just disappear without explanation? -- BenSchumin@aol.com A: She just disappeared, and it was never given reason. She reappeared as Sabrina/Scorpina in "Goldar's Vice-Versa", but they never mentioned why she wasn't there in the first place. Q: Why isn't the Fox Kids' webpages working? -- Moraima Rosado A: They changed them. You can get them at http://www.foxkids.com/ Q: Who is Amy Jo Johnson engaged to? -- br550@freenet.toronto.on.ca A: She is engaged to Colin Mayo, who was a crew member on "Power Rangers" and now is an "aspiring actor". Q: Is it true that Saban is firing Catherine Sutherland because she can't live up to Amy Jo's popularity? -- SJONES@toltec.astate.edu A: No, the producers love Cat. She's not playing Kimberly Hart either, she's playing Katherine Hillard. If they wanted a valley girl, they would have gotten one. Q: How can I get in contact with Jason David Frank? Can you give me David Yost's e-mail address if I promise not to hound him? I won't even let you know I gave it out. I'll give you a Power Ranger slammer, and if you don't give me the address, I won't. Etc. -- various members A: No!!! I am not going to give out any e-mail addresses, because I was asked not to. ************************************************************************** **** THE PRZ BULLETIN BOARD If you have an announcement you'd like me to print, send it to "BULLETIN BOARD" at marxokman@aol.com! --- Today's quote is by Squatt in "Rita's Seed of Evil". --- marxokman@aol.com is looking for a copy of the Masked Rider episode that was titled "Unmasked Rider". --- Wolf Breeze is looking for excellent tape collection duplication of every episode of Power Rangers, preferably without commercials.
