The answer: A day of fun. Last Friday (May 24th), I was lucky enough to meet seven cast members from the Alien Ranger miniseries when they met for a reunion at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Matthew Sakimoto (Young Adam) and Norma Sakimoto, his mom, are members of the newsletter, and they invited me along. My mom got in contact with Cody Slaton (Young Bulk) and his mom, Judy Taylor, who live in Bakersfield, and everything was planned. At 6:30 in the morning, I met Cody and Judy and we took off. On the way, we stopped and got a friend of Cody's named Brandi. She had met the cast before and she was returning for the reunion. We talked about every possible subject that could be thought of on the way down, and before you knew it, we were at Valencia. We stopped by McDonalds for breakfast, talked about horror movies, Helen Hunt, and the Arch Deluxe, and then were on our way. Before we entered the park, Judy showed me Saban Studios and we even saw Bulk and Skull's "Hog" from "Power Rangers ZEO"! Then, the trip began. While waiting in line for parking, which hadn't opened yet, we met Julia Jordan (Young Kat). For those of you who are going to ask, no -- she doesn't have an accent. She actually has a very cool voice. We also met her were her parents and her brother. The next people we saw were Sicily Sewell (Young Aisha), Michael O'Laskey (Young Rocky), and Michael's dad. We all got on the tram together and then met Matthew and Norma at the front gate. I finally got to meet the two who got me where I was in the first place, and they were two *very* sweet people. However, Norma had to go to work so she couldn't hang around with us. :( Next up were Michael Gotto (Young Tommy), his three friends, two brothers, father, father's friend, father's girlfriend, and her son. After Ross Samya (Young Skull) arrived, we all ventured into the park. While waiting in the entrance, I got to talk to Ross, a very funny and vivacious kid. Then, we entered the park. We stopped by the lockers and I talked to Michael O'Laskey a.k.a. Joey (Since there are two Michael's, people call him Joey -- his middle name -- to keep them from getting mixed up) and I learned that he knows a lot about Power Rangers. The first ride we went on was the Log Jammer. Then, we went on Jolly Roger, and Sicily, Joey, and I went flying in circles! The next ride we went on was the Swashbuckler, a spinning swing-set. Then, we went on the Buccaneer, a pirate ship ride. Everytime the ride went up on our side, I would do an overdramatic scream. When we got off, a whole group of kids talked about how much they wanted to slap me. Heehee... ;-) The fifth ride was Colossus, and I went on it with Sicily. We wanted Matt to go with us, but he ended up going alone because of the lines. Colossus was cool, and I kept my hands up the whole way and didn't even throw up afterwards. ;-) Batman was next. Half of the group was in line ahead of us and when we went to meet them, the security guard yelled at us so Matt, Joey, and Julia stayed behind. In line, Michael (who is recognized the most) was spotted by some Power Ranger fans and he pointed out the rest of the crowd. Anyways, on Batman, I rode next to Sicily and screamed in her ear , even though she threatened to pinch me if I did. After Batman, we walked around Colossus County Fair, and Michael's dad won a hat for the "Guess Your Weight" game and Joey's dad won for the "Guess Your Age". He looks really young, so the "Guessing Guy" was *way* off. Next up was the Sandblasters, and Monica's video, "Before You Walk Out of My Life", was on. I had been singing the song all day long and waiting for the video to come on, so I was really happy when it did. In line for Sandblasters (a.k.a. Bumper Cars), I got everyone's autograph. Then, we got on (Julia took a girl who wasn't tall enough to ride alone and couldn't go) and Sicily and I teamed up: I was in charge of the gas, she was in charge of steering. Just like the "chew bubblegum and walk at the same time" phrase, it's hard to press the gas and steer at the same time so Sicily and I bumped more people than got bumped. We managed to get everybody, I think. The two rides I hadn't ridden were Tidal Wave and Freefall, and I got them both in the next hour. Sicily, Ross, and Joey came on Tidal Wave with me and we got to be in the front. We were a little damp after the ride, but we decided to stand on the bridge to get wetter. Ross told us that if we stood on the right, we'd get soaked but nobody believed him. Joey, Ross, and I stood there and when the boat came down -- I felt a *very* powerful burst of water that almost knocked me over and I knew that when the wave disintegrated, I would be dripping with tons of water. And, I was. After thanking Ross for his wonderful advice (heehee), we got in line for Freefall. The line took an hour to drain and when we finally got up there, I went with Joey and Sicily. How do I describe Freefall? It's like one of those nightmares when you're at the top of Mount Everest and you jump off and you're falling, and you can feel yourself falling, and you wake up and your stomach is still dropping. The only difference is this isn't a dream -- it's real, and it's a nightmare! On the way to Ninja, Ross and I stopped at Waterfront and got pizzas, and shared a Coke. We finished just in time to join the other kids at Jet Stream. I went with Ross and JoeJoe, Michael's youngest brother (Darryl is his older brother). We had a good time on it, and Ross knew the whole ride by heart. Next, we went on Ninja. I originally planned to sit by Matt, but nobody was going with Julia so I decided to go with her instead, and sit by Matt on "Revolution". Julia and I had a good time on it -- until we were departing. We noticed that Jet Stream had stopped the boats, and the next thing you know, we're stuck in an uphill position on the track for ten minutes. Like Julia said, "When I said I wanted to stay on the ride longer, this isn't exactly what I had in mind." After regrouping, we made our way to Baja Ridge to ride Viper. It was Cody's first time, and he sat by Matt, and behind him were Ross and I. Viper was totally cool and I loved every second of it. What did Cody think of it? "That ride kicks [butt]!" Next was Revolution. I went with Matt, and it was really cool. The only problem is I couldn't see the ground below on the steep drops because the guy in front of me had a big head. ;-) Our next destination was the Log Jammer. In line, some older kids were putting down the group, calling them "kindergartners" and complaining that they were just wasting the time of the "cool kids". Then, they started picking on Michael -- Brandi and him were "going out for the day" and they were holding hands. They started making fun of him because of that, so I turned to Sicily and said *very* loudly "I think those guys behind us are gay!" That got them to shut up and learn not to talk about people behind their backs. ;-) I went on the Log Jammer with Sicily, Jennifer, and Diane. We joked around and shouted "Go Go Power Rangers!" everytime we went down a drop. At the end, we met up with the rest of the group. Julia and her family had to go, so we said goodbye and then continued on. The last roller coaster we went on Flashback. I went on with Michael, Brandi, and Ricky. The ride jerked us up and down so much we sweared we decided they should change the name of the ride to "Whiplash". After Flashback, some of the kids went to "Palace Games" arcade and then we went to Yosemite Sam Sierra Falls. Sierra Falls was a waterslide that you go down on a raft. The first time up, I went down with Jason and the second time I went with Sicily. By the end, I was so soaked I couldn't even move without shivering. Actually, my clothes were still soaked the next day! After going souvenir shopping and taking some last minute pictures, we said goodbye to Ross and Joey and his dad. Then, we went to El Torito for dinner, and I rode with Matt and Norma (Oh yeah -- and, Michael showed me a really cool shirt of him as Zeo Ranger V) After almost an hour wait, they finally found some tables to fit eighteen of us. While waiting, the kids told some jokes and Sicily told us her theory on cold hands and hot hands (Cold = warm heart). When we got our table, the adults sat at one; Cody, Michael, Matt, and Brandi sat at another; and the rest of the kids, including me, sat at the third. While waiting for the food, Darryl thought up some dares to do with the extremely spicy salsa. Sicily, Jennifer, and I also went to the pay phones and she kind of prank called the Pager Number lady while speaking in a baby voice. The lady said "Sorry, there's no pager number with that number, but you have a very nice voice", and Sicily (in the squeaky articulation) said "Okay, thank you." ;-) Finally, our food came and I had a quesidilla but they forgot to bring half of the people at our table their drinks. At the end, I was 70 cents short, but Darryl and his dad's girlfriend were nice enough to pitch in for the rest. After leaving the restaurant, we all bid our farewells and thanked each other for a good time. The awaited day was ending. Judy, Cody, and Brandi talked about the trip on the way back and I tried to contribute but my eyes were so heavy, that I fell asleep in the car. When I woke up, we were in Bakersfield and I directed Judy to where my home was (Actually, I got lost in the darkness but we finally found it!). Then, I said my farewell and thank you for perhaps the funnest day of my life, waved goodbye to three very nice people, and then disappeared into my house, to fall asleep instantaneously. How do I sum up the actors and actresses who appeared on the "Alien Ranger" series? All in all, they're just wacky, normal kids! They sing "Everybody loves a weiner!", they tap each other on the shoulder and then run away, they tell funny jokes...However, "normal kids" is sort of an insult to classify them. Unlike some kids, they have traits that stand out -- they are precocious, sociable, intelligent, and artistic. Cast of Characters: JULIA JORDAN- Sweet, advanced, refined. Friday's trip was her first time ever at Magic Mountain! 4. Ross Samya used to be nicknamed the "Energizer Bunny". He's also very smart and has a very creative sense of humor. 3. Justin Timsit's mom is Terry Murphy from "Hard Copy". 2. Matthew Sakimoto likes Party of Five, roller hockey, baseball, and rap music. David Yost personally told Norma Sakimoto (see "Ticket To Ride") that he was leaving and the craft service even had a cake for his (supposedly) last episode. However, he decided to remain on the show as the brain of the Power Chamber. ************************************************************************** THUY TRANG'S FLIGHT reported by jsjuno01@homer.louisville.edu THUY TRANG (Kali), best known for her role as Trini the Yellow Ranger on "The Mighty Morphin Power Ranger,'' makes her feature debut with The Crow: City of Angels. Trang was born in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After the fall of Saigon, her father, who served in the Southern army, fled to America seeking political asylum while his wife and four children remained in their homeland. Four years later, they boarded a cargo ship bound for the U.S. with hundreds of refugees, or "boat people.'' Because the six-year-old Thuy was so frail and sickly, it was suggested that she be thrown overboard to make room for other people. Instead Thuy's mother fought for her ailing daughter's life, force-feeding the unconscious child throughout their perilous journey. Now twenty-two, Trang has remained devoted to her family, who ulti-mately settled in California. Following her father and two brothers into the engineering field, she never considered a career in show business until it literally landed in her lap. While studying civil engineering at the University of California at Irvine, the exotic beauty did occasional modeling and commercials. Her agent had her audition for the "Power Rangers,'' which she landed, becoming part of worldwide TV phenomenon that has catapulted her to an object of adulation for children in 72 countries. ************************************************************************** **** STRETCH Today's stretch word is "dentures". These summaries comes from Fox Kids web site and TV Guide. Saturday, May 25 "TARGET RANGERS" Rocky's computer science project is challenging, but not half as challenging as his beautiful lab partner, Jennifer. While Rocky is trying to figure out a way to ask the intimidating computer whiz to the dance, Mondo and Machina plan on stealing the project for use in their latest diabolical creation, a ballistic baddie called Silo. TVG: Rocky's new computer program proves too tempting for Mondo and Machina to resist, so they steal it to use against the Rangers. Nakia Burrise. Rocky: Steve Cardenas. Monday, May 27 "GRADUATION BLUES" Billy finds out that because of all his extracurricular extra credit, he's graduating from Angel Grove High early. There's just one problem-Billy has no idea what to do with the rest of his life. It seems like that question is answered for him when Cestro of the Alien Rangers crash-lands on Earth to seek his help-he wants Billy to come to Aquitar with him! TVG: On the day of his high-school graduation, Billy is summoned to Aquitar to aid the alien Rangers in defeating a water-contaminating monster. Tuesday, May 28 "A FEW BAD SEEDS" Rocky's botany class project gets a little out of hand-the wacky weed eats metal, and grows like-well-a weed. King Mondo sees the potential in the seedling, and turns it into two plant cousins, Yukon and the Pollinator. TVG: When Skull (Jason Narvy) steals Rocky's botany club project, King Mondo changes the pilfered plant into a ravenous monster. Wednesday, May 29 "INSTRUMENT OF DESTRUCTION" The guidance counselor wants Adam and Skull to broaden their studies, so they find themselves in music class-Skull against his will. But who is the mysterious cloaked pianist Adam has seen in the music room after hours. And why is Prince Sprocket trying to capture him-by any means necessary? And will Skull ever learn that high C is not a fruit drink? TVG: When a mysterious, black-caped musician attracts the attention of King Mondo, the Rangers must uncover the mystery man's secret. Thursday, May 30 "MR. BILLY'S WILD RIDE" At long last, Billy is returning from Aquitar, where the Aquitians have found a peaceful solution to their problems. Unfortunately, King Mondo is out to make Billy's life much less peaceful, by throwing his spaceship way off course. As Billy spins out of control into the black void of space, there's only one place to call for help: 'Zordon, we have a problem...' TVG: Billy's flight home from Aquitar is interrupted by King Mondo, who launches an attack on the spacecraft, leaving Billy stranded in space. Saturday, June 1 "RANGERS IN THE OUTFIELD" When Tanya exhibits a natural talent for pitching, it makes Shawn kind of jealous. And when she strikes Shawn out, he gets downright hostile. Shawn decides to get in a little batting practice, and Rocky and Adam join him. This plays right into Prince Sprocket's plans: his fiendish People Pitcher sucks Rocky in, and it's up to Adam to get him out before it's too late! TVG: The Rangers go to bat against a monster that has captured Rocky (Steve Cardenas) -- who's missing his Zeonizer. ************************************************************************** **** NEXT ISSUE!
