Could've been done a little better (as with the bombing of Rita's palace), but ever since the dehydration of the lake in "A Hogday Afternoon, Part I", Saban's been getting pretty good with special effects. Who knows, maybe they'll even generate entire episodes on their own! (Nah, the Japanese stuff is definitely better.) BAD: Zedd and Rita's send-off. I mean, these guys have been attacking Earth, manipulating the Ranger's minds, and generally acting evil for three seasons now, can't they get a better comeuppance than having to move in with Master Vile? LAME!!! I think the kids wanted to see some kind of punishment, and I think the older viewers would, too. No, I'm not talking about killing them, but PUNISHING them. Have Rita stuffed back into her dumpster for another 1000 years. Have Zedd forced to work Mondo´s machinery mines. Have Finster become Austin St. John's personal agent. But don't let them get off THAT EASY!!! GOOD: Rito and Goldar will stay, albeit with amnesia. They said that it would take "something familiar" to jog their memory, but without the Ranger's old costumes, zords, Alien Rangers, or their extended monster family, I'm completely stumped as to what that might be. BAD: And where are Goldar's wings? As soon as Rito asked the question I thought: "Hey, wait a minute, he's right." How could he just LOSE them? I mean, the only time that happened before is when Rita took them from him, and that was on _purpose_ . . . well, since he never even USED them while he had them, I guess it's a moot point . . . GOOD: I'm liking Mondo and the Machine Queen a _little_ more, but I'm not quite there yet. Still, anyone who'll brutally bomb Rita's palace like that has got to be evil. First time I've seen the massive troop scene, too--talk about power! And I could like the Machine Boy (or whatever), depending on how he's used. If he's just some "Yes-Man", he's useless. But if he's a real brat that'll eventually contribute to his parent's downfall, I'll be very happy. BAD: Bulk and Skull's new hawg. 'Nuff said. GOOD: Zordon's dead? But . . . but . . . I could have sworn he wasn't even IN the command center. Am I expected to believe that Zordon bought the farm and that Alpha's still around? Explanation, please. GOOD: The new Command room. Seems like some writers have been reviewing old Tom Baker Dr. Who episodes . . . GOOD: The new theme music. From what I've heard of it so far, I'm quite impressed. Great mutation of the old theme. Did I miss anything? ************************************************************************** **** POWER RANGERS ZEO: GOOD AND BAD by Rayden (rayden10@aol.com) GOOD: The part where the Rangers step through the vortex, most of all when Tommy puts his hand in half way and then takes it out. BAD: The fact that they use the Japanese film GOOD: The new CC but what made it better was that Billy said he saw plans for it in the DataBank BAD: All it is the movie set touched up GOOD: Bulk and Skulls bike, Nuff said GOOD: The Attack on the moon BAD: I would have liked to have seen Mondo and the Machine Queen throw Rita and ED (D'oh I mean Zedd) and the rest of the gang put back into the Dumpster GOOD: The intro with Tommy talking BAD: The fact that Goldar and Rito lived GOOD: The new music ************************************************************************** **** POWER RANGERS ZEO by Kristen Murphy (muggs@mail.tima.com) Here is Kristen's review from Day 3 of "Power Rangers Zeo": *TANYA* Roughly one day ago, Ranger time, this girl was living in a primitive village in the African savannah. How, pray tell, did she make this sudden transformation into a normal American teenager? Speaking of "sudden," where has she found time for dating? Also, how did Kat talk her parents into taking Tanya in? The girl is essentially an orphan, she has no background whatsoever, and Kat has known her for the grand total of one day. *TECHNOLOGY* The Power Chamber is sort of cool, although it doesn't look like we'll be hearing "Behold the viewing globe" anytime soon. I must admit that the special effects for morphing (Zeo-nizing?) are great, especially the beginning part with Kat's arm. The Zeo Zords, however, are stupid. Who picked those animals, anyway? Adam seems cursed to have stupid Zords forever: first a fire-breathing frog and now a green bull? *BAD GUYS* Ugh. This batch of do-badders has about as much chemistry as flat soda pop. Mondo & Machina are completely bereft of personality, and I can tell already that "Prince Sprocket" is going to get on my nerves big time. The cogs are just a cross between putties and skugs. As for Billy's comment that Mondo can make them at a rate of one per hour: so what? Finster could crank out 15 or 20 putties in just 10 seconds! And what's with this Scottish alien robot? With Mondo and Machina's attitudes, I don't see how they managed to conquer anything, much less 99% of the universe. At least Zedd and Rita *tried* to beat the Rangers! And why, oh why haven't we ever heard of this "United Alliance of Evil" before? Is Count Dregon a member? What about Grimlord? Barney, perhaps? *COLORS* The new uniforms look pretty good, except for those awful helmets (and how is Tanya supposed to see through those slits, anyway?). Switching colors was a bad idea, though. Adam isn't *that* bad in green, but Tommy in red??? I won't even start on Rocky...suffice it to say that blue is *not* his color. It looks *awful* on him, and makes his hideous haircut seem even worse. And how long is Billy going to remain in mourning? (BTW, can't Tommy go buy some clothes? I guess not, since he apparently teleported into Rocky's closet and stole his karate outfit.) *MISCELLANEOUS* Why, after having a computer explode in his face and then passing out face-first in the dirt, does Billy seem to be the least dirty of all the Rangers upon arriving in the Power Chamber? How did Goldar and Rito manage to lose the Zeo Crystal? Speaking of Goldar, what happened to his wings? Since when do Bulk and Skull live in the same house? Wouldn't it make more sense for Goldar to stay with one of them, and Rito with the other? Wouldn't it make the most sense of all for them to simply yell, "HELP, POWER RANGERS! GET THESE MONSTERS OUT OF OUR GARAGE!" Is Rito and Goldar's amnesia contagious? It must be, because the Rangers appear to have completely forgotten about Aisha. Don't you think they'd at least *mention* her? All in all, I'm not that thrilled with PRZ. Maybe this is a bad dream, and when I wake up, Tommy, Zack, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Jason will be fighting Lord Zedd with Thunderzords. I'm pinching myself with fingers crossed......OUCH! ************************************************************************** **** POWER RANGERS STRIP SHOW #6 [ANSWERS!] Here are the answer's to Tommy's strip. It all started when I was trying to find autographs of the Power Rangers so I looked up "Power Rangers and autograph" on Netscape's Net Search. There were many results, but none of them actually had a Power Ranger's autograph for sale -- except for one page... It was the homepage of the Valencia Vikings! They were having an auction and one of the items was Steve Cardenas' autograph. Since Valencia was about an hour away from my home, I planned on going. At first I thought the auction was in a couple of days, but when I reread the page, I realized it was in a month. I e-mailed the creator of the page and got all of the information that I needed. My mom okayed the trip and I was all set to go...until I realized that my family trip to Magic Mountain was planned on the same day of the auction! The ironic thing was that both Magic Mountain and the auction were in Valencia. I knew that Fate set that up for a reason...but, my mom refused to go to both. I e-mailed the owner of the page again and the auctioneer informed me that I could bid by mail. So, I sent a $35 check to the school and crossed my fingers... On April 27th, I was on my way to Valencia to spend a day with my cousin, aunt, and grandparents on Magic Mountain. I was depressed for most of the trip, because on the way down, I saw Saban Studios and the parking lot was PACKED with cars. It was filming day and I could see a few people in front of the gates. But, we whizzed by before I could get a good look. :( After the trip, I literally begged my mother to stop by the auction, just to see if we won and perhaps to bid on some of the other autographed items they had (There were about 200!) As we were leaving Magic Mountain, my mom surprised me by not heading to Bakersfield but straight ahead -- to the high school. We got out, found the auction, and stepped inside. It took us awhile to see if we had won because they told us that many items had already been auctioned off -- including the picture. Finally, we saw the bid sheet, which I assumed would be empty, but surprisingly about ten high school kids had bid on Steve's autograph. My heart dropped as I saw the long list...until I saw that the final bid was $15! Then, I realized that it had been sold to Marx Okman!!! After getting $20 back and meeting the guy in charge of the auction that I had e-mailed several times, we left the auction...and, in my hands, I held the autograph that I had been trying to get for over a month! And, now it hangs over my computer, still with the auction sticker on the plastic cover -- and a symbol of my Zeo Search. ************************************************************************** **** ASK MAX Q: Did you send out Issue 60? I didn't get it! -- various members A: My AOL account was down so I sent it out on my Internet account, which finds some America Online addresses unknown, so many members didn't get it. If you are one of them, e-mail me and I will send it to you. It was our first Power Rangers Zeo newsletter and it rocked!!! :) Q: Ever since you started doing the Power Rangers Strip Show, I've been looking for the Power Rangers Fruit-By-The-Foots, but can't find them. Any advice? A: Keep checking all grocery stores in your area. Some grocery stores choose not to carry them, to save shelf-space. If you are still having trouble finding them, post a "Bulletin Board" message. Q: Why can't the Rangers can't reveal their identities - rethomps@unity.ncsu.edu A: The Rangers can't reveal their identity because the Third Rule is "Keep your identity a secret". They'll lose their power coin if they don't. Plus, how can they be normal teens when they are thought of as superheroes? Q: Was there any significance to all of the Wizard of Oz quotes in the Alien Rangers miniseries? A: None other than the writers getting silly. ************************************************************************** **** STRETCH Nobody answered the stretch "Magic Mountain". I was thinking that "Magic Mountain had roller coasters and Billy's science project on 'I, Eye Guy' featured a 3-D roller coaster machine. Actually, the roller coasters they showed on "I, Eye Guy" were from Magic Mountain. I guess it could have also been: "Power Rangers" films at Saban Studios, Saban Studios is in Valencia, and so is Magic Mountain. "My character is scrappy, tenacious and quick-thinking," explains actress Sarah Brown. "But all of Carly's energies are put to use to cover her deeply rooted fear of being hurt by the people she meets." This role is one Sarah feels destined to play. Her first airdate on "General Hospital" was April 8. Born in Eureka, California, Ms. Brown had an eclectic, nomadic upbringing, living -- in various combinations -- with her mother, father and two siblings in cities throughout California. "I went to 13 different schools before I graduated from high school. It was the best education possible," Sarah confides. In Los Angeles, Ms. Brown was a student at Santa Monica College when she was chosen as a series regular for the popular "V.R. Troopers" children's series. "I got the job on my 19th birthday. What a gift!," she enthuses. Other television credits include "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers," "The New Power Rangers Zeo," "Lifeguard" and "Sweet Valley High." Theatrically, Ms. Brown has recently been seen in Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing," "Antigone," and a new drama titled "Desperate Land." In feature films, Sarah starred in "The Heist," "Permanent Solution" and "Merely Players." Active in many endeavors, Sarah spends her free time reading, writing, playing guitar, painting and directing. She is also active in raising funds for AIDS awareness and support.
