Section 7, page 1. All right, all you Power Rangers-dissers out there. You've been busted! The White Ranger knows who you are--and he knows lots of you are secretly into the show. "They watch it," said Jason David Frank, 21. He plays Tommy the White Ranger on TV and in the new "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie." "They don't tell you they watch it," he added. "They know more about it that their little brothers or sisters." Does Jason have super powers that clue him in? No, he's just hip to those kids who think they're slick. He told us about it when he was in Chicago pumping up the movie. "From about 12, 13, 14... I get kids around that age, they're always saying, 'Sign this! It's for my little brother,'" Jason laughed. If your not a Morphin-watcher (or if you're just saying you aren't and you know who you are!), you might get hooked on "Power Rangers: The Movie." At a cost of $40 million to $45 million, it's nothing like that cheesy-looking TV show. The movie has two new types of Power Ranger costumes, new Zord ships and animal signs for the Rangers, and slick-looking computer animation. As you know (and don't say you don't because you're so busted!), Jason's character is the most popular Ranger. Some look at him as the leader, but he'd rather be called the "team captain." "We're all a team," he said. "It's not like, 'YOU GO HERE, I'LL GO HERE!! MORPHIN TIME, LET'S GO, LET'S GET 'EM!!" Jason was the Green Ranger when the show powered up 2 1/2 years ago. He traded colors last year (he likes being the White Ranger, but being Green was also keen). Jason, who has been studying martial arts since he was 4 and owns a martial arts school, plans to be a Ranger for a while. "You should see the next [TV] season stuff coming, it's really cool," he said. Be ready for new monsters, new characters, some of the stuff from the new movie added in and possibly new Rangers. Still, Jason wants to get more into feature films. There's talk of a Power Rangers sequel, and Jason is set for an action movie next year. But he's glad to be on the show, "which in my words, is not cheesy," he said. "It's a kids show, and kids like it, and it's like the No. 1 show right now," Jason said. "Basically, kids eat cheese." And you cheese-eaters know who you are! [Large picture of frog] What in the name of Rita Repulsa is a frog doing under Jason's story? In the Power Rangers movie, the Rainbow Brigade gets new animal powers. The animals now are the Falcon, Bear, Ape, Crane, Wolf... and Frog? "Everybody was scared: 'Who's going to be the frog?'" laughed Johnny Yong Bosch, the lucky Black Ranger who went from mastodon to frog. "That's all right. I guess in Japan, the frog is very... there's a spiritual meaning to it and things like that. So I guess it's sort of good to be a frog... to some people." IRC is Internet Relay Chat. It is similar to what we call chat rooms here on AOL. After these instructions, I will give some basic information that will help you with "netiquette" on IRC. Please note that these instructions are for IBM compatibles/PC's NOT Macs. Unfortunately I do not think it is possible to IRC with a Mac on AOL. STEP 1: DOWNLOADING MIRC a. Go to keyword "filesearch." (keyword is located under the "Go to" menu) b. In the box for searching type "Mirc." c. Click on the selection, when the menu comes up click on "download file." d. Specify what directory you wish the program to go to.. be sure to remember where you are putting it or you won't be able to find it later. e. Click on "OK" and wait for the program to download. STEP 2: DOWNLOADING WINSOCK FOR AOL 2.5 a. Go to keyword "Winsock." b. Click on the small square that states "Download Winsock"(it will say that or something very similar to that) c. Click on "download file." d. Select the AOL download directory for the winsock to go into.. The download folder will be under the name of "AOL" or "AOL25" or "AOLA" or possibly "AOLB." Just look for a folder that has the name "AOL" someplace in it. e. Click on "OK" and wait for the winsock to download into your AOL directory. f. Sign off of AOL. STEP 3: COPY WINSOCK TO THE WINDOWS DIRECTORY a. Go to the windows file manager. b. Find your "winsock.dll" in your AOL download directory. c. Click on winsock.dll to highlight it. d. Go to "Copy" under the "File" menu at the top of your screen. e. In the "To" box put your windows directory.. Example: C:windows. f. Once it has copied to that directory, restart your computer. Note: If you have windows 95, you can use the easy copy method of dragging the files... STEP 4: GETTING INTO THE CHAT a. Sign onto AOL. b. While on AOL, open up the MIRC program. (remember where you put it earlier) c. Go to the "setup" under the "file" menu. d. Put in the information for your name and nicknames. A nickname is what people will see on the screen as your name. e. Leave the IP Address and Local Host boxes empty. AOL should detect these automatically. f. For the server box, type "irc.gnn.com." For the port, type in "6667" g. Click on "Connect to selected server" h. If you cannot connect, go back to setup and change the server to "irc02.irc.aol.com." i. Once you have connected and see text coming down the screen... in the little long narrow box at the bottom of the window type "/join #mmpr" j. You should now be on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers chat channel!!! TIPS FOR MMPR AND IRC The chat areas on IRC are called channels, NOT rooms. Many acronyms are used on the internet... There are also many terms... A common term used is "re" Re simply means "Hi again." When someone leaves the chat channel and comes back people often times say "re" Actions: An action is a great way of expressing yourself. To perform one... in your chat window simply type "/me " For example, if I typed in "/me can fly" It would say to everyone in the chat "Marx Okman can morph." Another good command to know is "/whois " This is similar to profiles on AOL. When you type that in, you will see a little bit of information about that person. Other various commands and "Ops": Op stands for operator. On the internet chat there are many more options than on America Online. Some people are considered channel operators. People who have this feature have the symbol of "@" by their names. They have the option changing the topic of the channel and kicking people off the channel who are breaking rules and disrupting the chat. Use common sense while chatting on the mmpr channel. Be courteous and respectful for others. Although all this information may seem overwhelming, it really isn't all that much. Once you chat on IRC you will understand it much better. Many MMPR fans are regulars on the #mmpr chat channel and can answer your questions so don't be afraid. I hope to see you there soon! Today's review is on "The Good, The Bad, and the Stupid!" The Good, The Bad, and the Stupid -- that just screams Bulk and Skull. In the three seasons of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", Bulk and Skull have been the overlooked comic relief and it's time that they get their glory, in this 50-minute only-on- video "The Good, The Bad, and the Stupid!" Basically, Bulk and Skull are on an assignment as junior police officers and manage to get trapped in a cave. To pass the time, they discuss their craziest times yet, which come from such episodes as Food Fight (their food fight), Switching Places (when they switched places), For Whom the Bell Trolls (the volcano mess), Green With Evil Part III (trapped on a bus), The Trouble With Shellshock (hot dog mess), The Spit Flower (allergic to flowers), Life's a Masquerade (deciding what to be for the party), The Yolk'sOn You! (performing in the talent show), A Bad Reflection on You (just another day in detention...), Doomsday Part I (Bulk and Skull -- the superheroes), Plague of the Mantis (Cockroach Kung Fu), The Song of Guitardo(as princess and dragon), Orchestral Maneuvers in the Park (cementing the Rangers' footprints), Where There's Smoke, There's Fire (teaching some fire safety tips), Storybook Rangers Part I and II (making a monster), A Friend In Need Part II (pretending to be Power Rangers to pick up chicks), Ninja Quest (working to be Jr. Police officers), A Different Shade of Pink Part II (chasing after Gunthar Schmidt [the alleged spy]. It also includes Bulk and Skull using several attempts to get out of the cave, including using a plastic spoon to dig through the solid rock. During the video, you realize how much Bulk and Skull have changed, understand how talented Jason and Paul are, and finally get to see them as the stars of "Power Rangers". "The Good, The Bad, and the Stupid!" is very original and the plot runs quite smoothly. It *really* gets you into the Bulk and Skull mood and I guarantee that after you see it, you'll applaud everytime they enter the scene. Even with the infamous "I'm An Actor" P.S.A., which is featured at the end of the video. In conclusion, if you see this video in the store, grab yourself a copy.
