I happen to have two articles about him, the first when he did "Rangers Back In Time" and the second when he did the Power Rangers Zeo. Some of the information is really interesting, so heeeeeeeeerrre you go... >From the November 23, 1994 issue of "The Bakersfield Californian": "KID POWER" by Rick Bentley While many Bakersfield youngsters will be begging for hot-ticket Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toys this Christmas, Cody Slaton already has the best Power Rangers gift of all. He's just finished working with the real television heroes. And he even got to play on the "Power Rangers" regulars himself. Well, sort of. "I enjoyed it very much," said Cody of his first acting role in a two-part episode of "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", series to be televised in December. "It ("Power Rangers") is my favorite show and I have watched it since it came on last September. Cody is just one of millions of young fans who have made the series a hit in both the television and merchandising worlds. The Fox Network television series combines footage of six American actors with action sequences lifted from a Japanese television show. The combination of the East and the West has made the series a Godzilla of a hit. During an interview at The Californian, Cody's mother, Judy Taylor, patted her son on his arm and explained that he has always had an interest in acting. Like any good stage mom, she quickly listed all of the school plays her son had appeared in since his debut in kindergarten -- the lead role in "Chester the Lazy Turkey." Serious pursuit of an acting career started in February when Cody began the De Vore Artists Management commercial workshop. At the end of the training he signed with an agent. Cody had his first job interview the next day. He auditioned for the film "Tenderfoots" (the movie has been put on hold) and was told he was "too cute" to appear in a commercial for satellite wagering. After missing the chance to portray George C. Scott at age 11, Cody ended up in the Saban Entertainment offices in September. A few days later he had been told he had landed his first professional acting job. The two-part "Power Rangers" episodes features a story line that has the evil Lord Zedd using his dark magic to turn the teen-age Power Rangers into children. The magic also hits the comedy relief on the series -- Bulk (Paul Schrier) and Skull (Jason Narvy). "It was easy to play him (Bulk) because I had watched the show so much," Cody said. "In one scene I get shaving cream in the face and I knew exactly what he would do." Filming of the two 30-minute shows, titled "Power Rangers Back In Time", was done at the Saban studios in Valencia and at the Castaic Lake park. Cody spent six days working on the two shows. "It was great because I got to meet all of the Power Rangers. I got autographs of all of the actors", Cody said. His mother further documented the event with photographs and videotapes. She had a package of photos that showed Cody waiting on the set and posing with some of the show's characters. School work didn't stop as state law requires all young actors spend several hours daily with an on-set tutor. Cody's teacher has given him a week's worth of work that was completed when the cameras weren't rolling. The combination of limited school hours and the perks of being an actor agreed with Cody. "This is the perfect business to be in if you want to be pampered," Cody said with a big smile. Going back to school was a little difficult. Cody explained he talked about doing the shows but was contractually bound not to reveal how the shows ended. He also had to keep the secret that he worked with the three new actors who have joined the show taking over the roles of the Red, Yellow and Black Rangers. The other negative was that since the series is not a union show Cody will not be able to use the appearance to get his Screen Actor's Guild (SAG) card. Actors with lines on dialogue on a union show can get a SAG card. That translates into higher wages. For his work on the two shows Cody ended up making pretty good pay -- especially for an 11 year old. He will end up earning in the neighborhood of $1,000. That money has been put in the bank. While waiting for the show to air Cody will go back to doing things 11-year-olds do. He has his sixth grade school work plus he plays nose tackle and right guard on his flag football team. Cody likes watching "Power Rangers" and "VR Troopers" (another Saban show) and reading scary stories. There will be more trips to Los Angeles for auditions. "I just want to act," Cody said. "My manager said she is sending me on some exciting parts but won't tell me what they are until I get the calls to audition." The calls will have to go a long way to top the dream situation for Cody of having his first acting role to be on his favorite television show. Here's another article I found underneath that one, that I thought would be of interest: 'POWER RANGERS' TO HIT BIG SCREEN LOS ANGELES -- Twentieth Century Fox turns on the "Power" next week when it unveils the Rangers' exciting new look for the upcoming feature "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie." The Rangers' big-screen sneak peek will "morphinize" onto screens today in front of the studio's animated adventure, "The Pagemaster". One-sheets will also be distributed to the first 100 lucky youngsters attending these "Pagemaster" showings on the film's opening day. "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" will open in theaters worldwide in July 1995. And, here's the article I found this morning... >From the February 10, 1996 issue of "The Bakersfield Californian": "LOCAL ACTOR RELISHES 'MIGHTY' BIG OPPORTUNITY" by Rick Bentley The first time Cody Slaton worked on the series "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers", he reacted like most 11-year-olds would. He was excited working on a show that has been the top-rated program with kids since its launch. That was in 1994 when Cody was hired to portray a younger version of the character known as Bulk. In this series of karate kicks and massive monsters, Bulk offers the comic relief before and after each adventure. After the filming of the two-part episode in 1994, Cody could only talk about how neat it was to meet the "Rangers". "I have matured a lot since then," explained the 12-year-old local actor. He is reprising his role for a 10-part "Power Rangers" adventure featuring the young heroes. Those episodes will be telecast on the FOX network starting today. All run through Feb. 17. "This time I didn't go running up to the 'Power Rangers' w hen I saw them," Cody added. With the novelty gone of being where most youngsters would give their eyeteeth to be, Cody was able to spend the time on the set concentrating on his acting. He was also able to spend item watching all of the behind-the-scenes activities that are required to get a television show on the air. Another big difference between this job and the first was the time on the set. A week of work is needed to collect footage for two episodes of the series. That translated into Cody working from Sept. 20 to Nov. 3 on the 10 episodes. Because that work schedule fell during the new school year, Cody's class work continued. He had to spend a minimum of three-hours every day in the classroom working with a tutor. The only exceptions came when he was able to attend class on one day for longer than three hours. He could bank the overtime classroom work for days when the crew moved to location work. "That was a big difference this time," Cody said. "The first time we just filmed at the studio (located in Valencia) and at the park near there. This time we went to a lot of different places." One of his favorite locations was in San Dimas at Raging Waters. Cody got to wear a wild prison-striped bathing suit, just one of the "cool" costumes the young actor wore during the shoot. His recent work put Cody in very select "Power Ranger" company, as his character gets transformed into a monster. The episode, "Attack of the 60-Foot Bulk", was directed by Paul Schrier. He is the actor who portrays Bulk when the character hasn't been transformed into a kid-size package. That packaging was a major concern for the casting director. More than a year had passed between the filming of the first two-partner and the new episodes. The casting director had to make sure none of the actors had gone through some major growth spurt. "We had to go see the casting director the same day we had decided to take a vacation to Disneyland," Cody explained. "So, we spent the day at Disneyland then we left to go see the casting director. We went back to the park after we were done." Although he had grown a couple of inches, Cody was given the OK. Now that his second stint on the series had been completed, Cody must wait to see what happens next. There have been discussions of more episodes with the younger "Rangers" and making them a part of the next "Power Rangers" movie. Nothing firm has been offered. Until something breaks, he has returned to regular school and his interests of video games and watching professional wrestling. There is one thing he is certain of: "I want to be an actor more than ever," Cody said. ************************************************************************** **** QUIZ SHOW -- RESULTS!!!! by Marx Okman (marxokman@aol.com) Congratualtions to the Herndon's (Mousy99@aol.com, Lunette339@aol.com, and Aharhel@aol.com) for winning the MMPRNL Quiz Show. But, as the Bard himself says, "Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow." One more thing to add - this is the second last of the Hamlet series. I've been getting lots of positive feedback on this (one note from ILvJnyBsh), so I may do another. To recap, Hamlet has just been stabbed by Laertes' poisoned sword. Square brackets, [], were there, curly brackets, {}, were added by me. HAMLET: The point!--envenom'd too! Then, venom, to thy work. Adam: Eeeeew, it's all slimy! [Stabs KING CLAUDIUS] Tommy: Aw, Man, I shouldn't have worn white today! Oh well, at least I get to land on Kimberly. {He does a face plant just to the right of where Kimberly lies} All Treason! treason! KING CLAUDIUS: O, yet defend me, friends; I am but hurt. Tommy: {Does not move, speaks from the floor, face down} I think I need surgery. HAMLET: Here, thou incestuous, murderous, damned Dane, Drink off this potion. Is thy union here? Follow my mother. Adam: You'll have plenty of time to land on Kimberly later. [KING CLAUDIUS dies] Tommy: uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhh........ man. LAERTES: He is justly served; It is a poison temper'd by himself. Skull: I saw him mixing that stuff backstage. It's Gatorade with Coke in it. LAERTES: Exchange forgiveness with me, noble Hamlet: Mine and my father's death come not upon thee, Nor thine on me. Skull: Er, I gotta die now. {Skull kicks his legs up in the air and then flails about on the floor like a beached whale before finally settling down} [Dies] HAMLET: Heaven make thee free of it! I follow thee. Adam: Follow the yellow brick road... HAMLET: I am dead, Horatio. Wretched queen, adieu! Adam: Bye, Kim. I guess she can still hear me. HAMLET: You that look pale and tremble at this chance, That are but mutes or audience to this act, Had I but time--as this fell sergeant, death, Is strict in his arrest--O, I could tell you-- But let it be. Horatio, I am dead; Thou livest; report me and my cause aright To the unsatisfied. Adam: Um.... I gotta die now too. {Somebody pokes Adam, hands him a script} Adam: Oh, wait, that's not for a while. HORATIO: Never believe it: I am more an antique Roman than a Dane: Here's yet some liquor left. Rocky: Well, if I were a Dane, I'd be a great one. {Rim shot, Rocky avoids a tomato} Rocky: Wheeee! Oh, if you're gonna die, drink this. HAMLET: As thou'rt a man, Give me the cup: let go; by heaven, I'll have't. Adam: Screw my contract. I'll drink anyway since I'll be dead soon. HAMLET: O good Horatio, what a wounded name, Things standing thus unknown, shall live behind me! If thou didst ever hold me in thy heart Absent thee from felicity awhile, And in this harsh world draw thy breath in pain, To tell my story. {Adam starts singing the first verse of "Bury Me Not On The Lone Prairie" before a tomato connects squarely with his forehead} [March afar off, and shot within] HAMLET: What warlike noise is this? {Adam jumps a foot in the air} Adam: Yaaaah! What are ya trying to do, kill me? Our Distinguished Writer: Not yet. OSRIC: Young Fortinbras, with conquest come from Poland, To the ambassadors of England gives This warlike volley. {Aisha is under a table} Aisha: Ain't *nothin'* falling on me again! HAMLET: O, I die, Horatio; The potent poison quite o'er-crows my spirit: I cannot live to hear the news from England; But I do prophesy the election lights On Fortinbras: he has my dying voice; So tell him, with the occurrents, more and less, Which have solicited. The rest is silence. Adam: Oh boy! A death scene! {He falls down} [Dies] ************************************************************************** **** MIGHTY MORPHIN POTATO CHIPS by Andrew J. You may have seen them in you local grocery store. MMPR Maccaroni, MMPR Fruit Juice, and MMPR Fruit Snacks. There's also MMPR Sappgeghti O's, but I didn't give them a whril. Oh well after seeing them every time I went to my local store I decided to purchase some. I grabbed the Maccaroni, Fruit Juice and Fruit Snacks (both kinds). I payed for them and began my walk home which consisted of a whole two blocks. I got home and started to make the maccaroni, much to my dismay it wasn't even shaped like the Rangers, Zords, Monsters, etc. It was generic Maccaroni, with Powdered Cheese with a cheesy drawing of the Power Rangers, excluding the White\Green Ranger on the box. But I cooked it anyway. To keep me busy while I was watching to see a pot boil I grabbed the two kinds of MMPR Fruit Snacks. There was the Farley Brand Fruit Snacks, which had a nice photograph of the Rangers on it. And there was the Saban Foods brand (who also made the Maccaroni) which had that same cheesy drawing on it. Seeing as I thought the Saban Foods Fruit Snacks would be just as bad as the Maccaroni, I had them first. I opened the box and pulled out one white paper envelope that had the words "Power Rangers" typed on it. Not much creativity in the design. I opened it and out came little balls of hard dried artificial fruit. I grabbed a couple and tossed them in my mouth. I began to chew, but the fruit snacks wouldn't break into mush. After about 30 seconds of trying to eat them I realized the taste came in. I quickly spit them out. They nearly made me gag. I then grabbed the Farley Brand Fruit Snacks, and examined the box. It looked safer then the Saban Foods attempt at fruit. I opened it and noticed the water was boiling for the Maccaroni, I tossed the maccaroni in and stirred a couple times, then turned my attention back to the Fruit Snacks. I reached in the Farley Box and grabbed a plastic package with the MMPR Logo printed nicley on it. I tore it open and saw Fruit Snacks that look like the Rangers, Zords, Monsters, etc. I tossed them into my mouth that could still taste Saban's evil fruit. The Farley brand was sweet, chewy, moist, pretty good fruit snacks, if you want some good fruit snacks, these are them. My Maccaroni was finished, I took them out of the water, added the cheese, and stuck it on my plate. I then poured myself the drink and sat down and began my MMPR Meal. The Maccaroni was okay. It was just like your typical Maccaroni Cheese. So you won't go blind like the Saban Fruit Snacks. I sibbed the drink it had a nice sweetness and tanginess, very much like Hi-C. In fact, I would swear it was Hi-C with a MMPR Label. Now for the summary of foods... On a scale from 0-10 MMPR Macaroni: 5 MMPR Fruit Juice: 7 MMPR Fruit Snacks (Saban Foods): -10,000,000,000,000 MMPR Fruit Snacks (Farley): 9 Saban should stick to making shows like MMPR, and leave the food to the pros. Tip: Never by food from Saban just because it has the Power Rangers on it. Note from Max: That's funny. I *did* buy the macaroni because it had Power Rangers on it. I also bought the fruit drinks. But, I'm so obsessive, I don't want to open them. However, I did sip one of the fruit drinks. It was on the shelves at Toys R Us. Maybe that was the problem because it tasted totally nasty. Don't get the Ecto-Cooler. By the way, don't get the Diet Cherry 7-Ups just because the Pink Ranger is on it. Those things have no taste whatsoever. ************************************************************************** **** MUSIC BOX by Jennifer Harmer (sthj@maristb.marist.edu) "THE POWER" (Snap) (Opening dialogue in Russian) (Opening Instrumental) I've got the power! This is the place where you will get weekly summaries of Power Ranger comic books. Kind of like an episode guide for MMPR comics. We'll start with the December 1994/No. 1 issue of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" in the Hamilton Comic series. "THE MENACE OF DRACULA" Plot: The Rangers [Zack, Trini, Jason, Kimberly, and Billy] are at a Science Fair, where Billy is entering an exhibit of sinestra draculi, bat-like bugs. But, Bulk and Skull crash the science fair and brag about their "How yeast rises" display. However, Bulk ends up getting splattered in paint from a nearby display. Meanwhile, Zedd plans to create a monster. He sends putties to wreck the Science Fair, but they are quickly destroyed by the Rangers. During the battle, Squatt and Baboo steal one of Billy's bugs and brings it to Lord Zedd. On Earth, Zordon tells the kids about the giant caterpillar that Lord Zedd has sent down via communicator. So, the kids morph out and begin to battle Sinestra. But, the monster wraps Jason, Zack, and Trini in his cocoons! So, Billy and Kimberly have to teleport to another dimension and battle a giant spider and his deadly venom. Using her Power Bow and a tin can, Kimberly manages to get a sample of the spider's venom and bring it back to the Command Center. The Rangers are freed, but have to finish off the battle with the dracula moth. Fearing defeat, Lord Zedd makes Sinestra grow, but the Thunder Megazord finishes off the monster before too much hazard is created. Back at the Science Fair, Billy wins first place for his exhibit. Bulk and Skull also win an award...for messiest science project when their yeast rises *too* much. ************************************************************************** ASK MAX Q: Can you tell me more about "Suzie Q" and when will it be out? A: I'll let Justin Whalin, who stars in the movie, tell you about it: I finished a movie this summer called "Suzie Q" with Shelley Long. It's kind of a romantic comedy. I play a young kind of basketball star who has given up the game after the death of his father. My character feels responsible for his death and kind of goes into a shell. The family moves away to a small town where I meet a girl with special talents. I don't want to give away too much. She kind of gets me to open up and start living life again. It probably won't be out until this summer. * I already had this article but Lunette339 also sent it to me so I'll give her credit, too. Q: In the commercial for the Alien Ranger toys they show only 5 people being reverted to a younger age. The Alien Rangers lack a Pink Ranger. I saw a commercial where Kim's replacement says something like "I want to be evil again". Now from these things I have drawn the conclusion that there is no Pink Ranger anymore. I don't think this is true, but I can't watch Power Rangers to find out because I'm at work and don't like to tape. Can you help? -jagar@efn.org A: Kat was saying she wanted to be evil as a distraction so that Tommy could get away. There is a Pink Ranger. It is the White Alien Ranger on the promo. However, Billy will not be a Ranger, and that's why there's only five. Actually, Aisha won't be a Ranger either but she'll be replaced. ************************************************************************** **** SABAN INTERACTIVE by Marx Okman (marxokman@aol.com) Why does everybody ask me if there are any Power Ranger CD Rom's?
