TODAY ON POWER RANGERS ... There are 365 days in a year ... how do the Ranger's show their spirit for 1996? While trying to figure the problem out, Lord Zedd sends a Bird Cage Monster down to shine a spotlight on Alpha 5. With a cry of Aiyiyiyi, Alpha can only hum "Go Go Power Rangers!", hoping that his friends will help him. But, when the Yellow Ranger has a note for Zordon, it may hold up the plans. Things get worse when Mesia13 is sent down to destroy the Rangers! The Rangers must go after either an Angel Grove pamphlet or the treasure hunt answer in order to save the Earth. Since they don't have either, is Earth doomed??? Find out next time on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Newsletter! WHAT DO WE HAVE TODAY? Today On Power Rangers ... What Do We Have Today? The NP poll is still preempted and I am still accepting mistakes from the shows....but, the first version of "Nobody's Purfict!" is COMPLETED! Everyone (AOL made it so we can attach files to the Internet!) can get a copy. I am done editing and it will be handed out to anyone on AOL who asks for it. BTW, I am also working on a Masked Rider episode guide. You can also get "Fax on MAX" from me. ASK MAX ['Cause Max knows all] Q Why is this newsletter a day late? I ran out of online time. My mom capped my bill so I get cut off for the rest of the month if I hit $120. I did and I have been off for about 5 days. I even got cut off from a chat with Wonderfan! Sorry, WF! Q I like the song "The Power" from the movie soundtrack. Can you tell me more about it? A Sure, I can. "The Power" was the first smash for the group called SNAP. Snap is comprised of Turbo B., the rapper and beat box extraordinaire on the single, and his female counterpart, Penny Ford (she sings "I've got the power!'), who is also Turbo's cousin. Q Is Bulk the new president of Angel Grove High? --Lunette339/Mousy99 A Hmm ... good question. Well, Kim was the president but she left and the only other canidates were Bulk and Tommy. Tommy, however, withdrew from the race. So, Bulk must be the president! Of course, the school president probably won't be mentioned again, so it's safe to have him as the one. Q How can I chat about MMPR on the IRC? --various members A I'll let STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU answer this one ... Go to the web site "http://www.cyberverse.com/~piero/mmprirc.html". There is info on there about MMPR chatting on the IRC via DALnet, and also has links to info on accessing the IRC with other accounts. --STHJ YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT Last week's first quote was "...like a temple!" It was said by Rocky in "Rita's Pita". Since I missed this episode, I had to figure out what went on in the last minutes. Rocky said "Remember what you told Danny. You should treat your body like a temple!" Ltm4361 sent me the "script" and he never said that. I was wondering if Rocky was reminding Tommy what he said and adding to treat his body like a temple -- or was he reminding Tommy what he said about treating his body like a temple. KibaRanger got this right. The second quote was "What a concept." I've had this quote before but people *still* missed it. ;-P It was Alpha in "Day of the Dumpster". Kim had refused to be a Ranger because her hair got tangled in the helmet, and Alpha's circuits overloaded. Then, she said she was just kidding and Alpha said "Oh ... humor! What a concept." bruce@innovation.com got this right. Today's quotes are: QUOTE 1- "Ooh la la." QUOTE 2- "Have you ever committed heresy?" NOTE: Lunette339 gave me this quote. Since I'm out of them, I decided to use it. The Herndons are ineligible for Quote 2 only. TRIVIA PURSUIT Last week's trivia question was True or false: Trini's doll got turned into a "nice" monster once. The answer is false. Can you tell me why? (Hint: Ticklesneezer *was* nice.) This week's trivia question is: "Why DIDN'T Trini's doll get turned into a "nice" monster?" (Hint: it is related to the treasure hunt and a title of a MMPR episode) DID YOU KNOW ... ? --Another Brick in the Wall is the title of a Pink Floyd song. --Orchestral Maneuvers in the Park is based on the band called Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark. --I met Van Halen and his wife (Valerie Bertinelli) the other night online. I was impressed because he sings "Dreams" on the MMPR: TM soundtrack. He does more than that but all MMPR fans look for the MMPR relation. --Brad Hawkins (Ryan Steel on "VR Troopers") was on "Step By Step" last Friday. DID YOU KNOW (photos) ... ? --The cover of "I'm Dreaming of a White Ranger" is actually a drawing!!! I think the calenders might be drawings too but who knows? --On the 1996 Masterpiece MMPR calender, you can see the "Jason double" on the December photo. Look behind Aisha and Rocky's shoulders and you can see a guy in a red shirt and brown hair. He was the imposter who played Jason's back. And, now we get to see what he looks like. Thank God -- he doesn't look like Austin! ;-) --On the 1996 Masterpiece MMPR calender, the cover (and the June photo) show all of the Rangers wearing gloves -- except Kimberly. She is gloveless and we can see what the (pink) sleeves look like without the gloves and the cuffs. --On the 1996 Masterpiece MMPR calender, the December photo reveals the lighting. A fully sentient, multi-functional, automation with an unusually human-like personality replete with emotions, he is the guardian and operator of the Command Center and personal friend of Billy's. Romy J. Sharf is the 28 year old actress that played Alpha 5 for the first season and later was portrayed by Sandi Sellner in the second season; both of whom cannot see while within the costume. The voice of Alpha 5 is performed by Richard Wood. NICE TO MEET YOU SCREEN NAME: Mesia13 and lcraig@scf.usc.edu REAL NAME: LeiLani A. WE'RE NUMBER ONE! Isn't it weird how we had this subtopic last week and now it can be used again? I always thought MMPR was getting worse, but it seems to be getting better. I went to Toys R Us to get the movie and every single kid there got MMPR toys and MMPR toys only. There were three aisles just of MMPR toys. The whole walk-in section was MMPR. Looks like it's getting *better*. Anyway, if you watched the FOX Kids TV Takeover, you would have very been impressed. Although the commercials for the TV Takeover did everything *but* influence the vote of MMPR, it still won. I think it was not influenced because it won last year, but persuasion or not -- it won. The results were: #4: Spiderman #3: X-Men #2: Goosebumps #1: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers In case you didn't tune in, they played "I'm Dreaming of a White Ranger". I managed to tape it but on the wrong tape so I was depressed. I was not ready for it because I thought Batman would win ... but it didn't! ;-) Anyway, the version of IDOAWR was edited and very different from the video version. Some of the edited parts included Kat in the Viewing Globe, the elf's summary of Christmas to Rito (although it was shown on the credits), and 'maybe next year'. Maybe the editors thought kids would think Santa was mean by making the villains thinking they were getting something for Christmas when they actually weren't ... SINCERELY YOURS Did you find the Delphi web site for MMPR? Have you tried to e-mail one of the Rangers, or perhaps one of the villains. Well, DON'T BOTHER! You can say anything -- ask how they look without makeup, compliment them, tell them you're going to blow up their house ... you'll get the same letter everytime! So ... I'll save you the time! I'll post the letters here! Here's the Yellow Ranger ... From: YELLOWRANGER@delphi.com Dear Junior Power Ranger, Thank you very much for writing! The response to our Power Rangers home page has been so morphenomonal, I can hardly believe it. I want to tell you about our new movie, and more about using the Internet to find out about Power Rangers and other neat stuff. I just got back from a nice hike. It feels great to go outside - especially after I've been online. I noticed that Adam's eyes are bugging out... maybe I should pull him away from his computer and get him outdoors, too. But before you go, I want to give you a few hints on using the Web. Here's a morphenomonal Web surfin' Power Rangers Net-tip: The Internet and Web are big - and sometimes, you might find something that you don't understand, or be asked questions by somebody you don't know. Remember, you can think for yourself on the Net. If somebody asks you to do something that bothers you, tell a parent or a teacher. Thanks very much for spending time with us at our Web Site. It was great having you here - come back soon. Aisha, The Yellow Power Ranger --I think Karan Ashley actually wrote this. Can't say why, but I think she did! ;-) CHRISTMAS WITH THE RANGERS I'm trying to make a very creative Christmas issue. So, far I have nothing. And, I don't want the Halloween issue thingee (I don't think anyone did). Got any ideas on how I can string all of the Xmas stuff together? Send them my way! Also send your MMPR XMAS poems, recipes, projects -- anything MMPR/XMAS related. I already have one. BTW, so it won't have to be an "After Christmas nl", the holiday issue will come out on Christmas Eve. I have not been to my dad's house in over two years and now I'm going on the 24th. I'll try to send the nl before I go. Why don't you save it and read it during Christmas dinner? ;-P BTW, this newsletter is going to be the premiere of the 3rd season of MMPRNL. (Issue 72 will be the start of the 4th) --Too bad this isn't an XMen nl. We could have a XMen XMas. COLORFUL CHANGES My mom mentioned a joke she read in Thursday's newspaper. Today, Sunday, I went through the trash to find it at the very bottom -- soaked with goo. Luckily, I found the article, unharmed. It was in the Entertainment Notebook and it was titled "Colorful Changes". "For those keeping track, another "Power Ranger" has been replaced. Catherine Sutherland has become the new Pink Ranger replacing Amy Jo Johnson. Reportedly the reason for the switch was Johnson's constant ordering of the senior citizen's mean when the heroes dined out. NOTE FROM MAX: You don't think AJ was fired because she was too old? Either that or the author is a MMPR fan. How else would he know that AJ was the oldest? If he/she is not a MMPR fan, then they could have made the joke by hearing reports that she was fired because of her age. Either way, enquiring minds want to know! 365 DAYS OF THE YEAR There are two MMPR calenders. One is a Landmark. The other is a Masterpiece. Here's a "review" on the Masterpiece. A year is a long time. And, who better to spend the year with than the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? With this Masterpiece calender, it can happen. The Masterpiece is of fine quality and design. The cover is purple with a pink binding and a picture of the morphed Rangers in the Command Center. Billy, Tommy, and Kim in back with Aisha, Adam, and Rocky in front. This is also seen on the June section. JANUARY features a picture of the Stone Canyon teacher (forgot his name), Aisha, Rocky, and Adam tied up in the Cave of Evil or whatever. A putty appears to be frightening the teacher (what the heck is his name?) It came from the "The Ninja Encounter Part II" and the expressions on the faces are priceless! FEBRUARY features a suited Adam, Kimberly, Tommy, Billy, Rocky, and Aisha suited but holding their helmets in front of a shed. I believe it's from "The Great Bookala Escape" right after Bookala is sent off to the sky. Anyway, the focus is on Tommy. Note: You can see a nice view of a mountain behind the Rangers. I have climbed that same mountain when Cristo's umbrellas was on it. MARCH shows Rocky, Aisha, and Billy standing around an "Angel Grove Scavenger Hunt Contest" sign from the episode "Scavenger Hunt". I believe it is when they are watching Bulk, Skull, and Gypsy Abalone. APRIL includes a scene from "Scavenger Hunt" also. Rocky, Billy, Kimberly, Tommy, Aisha, Adam (and Ernie's hair) are standing around the bar watching something (Gypsy Abalone and the boys). It was right after they won the contest, I believe. MAY reveals Billy (as Einstein), Tommy (as Pirate), and Kimberly (as Joker) sitting at the Juice Bar counter. Tommy seems to playing with a gummy worm. Kimberly's expression is precious. JUNE is the same cover from the cover. Note that Tommy is holding the Sword of Power. That proves that this is "The Power Transfer Part III". JULY is from "Two for One". A morphed Zack, Kimberly, Billy, and Trini are fighting the Pursehead, who is holding a giant Q-tip with a fish at the end. Wouldn't like to see what else is in her ear! AUGUST is from "Forever Friends". Shawna is standing next to the White Ranger. They seem to be motionless but I bet it's right before Shawna is teleported back to Earth. This picture caused me to believe that these pictures were actually drawn because it does not look like a photograph. SEPTEMBER displays Aisha, Adam, and Rocky talking in the halls right when they first arrive in Angel Grove High in "The Power Transfer Part I". Note a girl walking by with an "I'm on TV" look on her face. OCTOBER exhibits Adam, Rocky, and Aisha in their jogging clothes, on the trail, looking around. Rocky is holding a machine that Alpha made. This comes from "Zedd Waves". Note a lady in a dress blocked behind a tree and a lady near the lake, watching the three. NOVEMBER comes from "The Wedding Part I". Two putties are holding Alpha 5 with Finster over him. It's right before Alpha becomes evil. DECEMBER reveals Adam, Aisha, and Rocky looking up at something (Zordon, of course). Behind Adam and Aisha's shoulders you can see Billy and Kimberly (Kim looks like she's in another world). Behind Aisha and Rocky's shoulders, you can see Jason's imposter. It comes from "The Ninja Encounter Part III", when the three Stoners (Stone Canyon kids) meet Zordon for the first time. Note the lights above the picture for the camera. All in all, this calender trigers a lot of 2nd season memories with it's cherished pictures and clearness. If you are lucky enough to see this in the store, get your checkbook out -- it will be worth it. --Mm__) THE EPISODE THAT NEVER WAS Hey, if you've heard of an episode that was written by one of the writers and never used, please tell me! I have one for ya ... The "Bird Cage Monster" from the Japanese footage was supposed to be used on a MMPR episode titled "Lost and Found". There was even a script in which Ernie is cleaning out the closet in the Juice Bar (A bird cage, a table cloth, a sombrero, etc.) and Zedd decides to make all the junk into a monster. No one thought it was funny so the script was "scrapped". --Thanks to Doug for this info.
