Goldar had just teleported him to the Dark Dimension, after the coolest putty fight ever (Kimberly's karate stance used to be really dorky--her arms high in the air...) and Tommy says, "Why am I here?" It was Kimberly in "Foul Play in the Sky"--an episode I typed up and have memorized. Did anyone tape "Showdown". I also heard that there was an interview on HBO in between movies. Does anyone know when the next one will be on? "THE WHITE ALBUM" REVIEW THE WHITE ALBUM by Marx Okman Well, I finally got "The White Album". When I first heard about it last year, I thought it would be an album. Instead it was a story cassette. Why didn't they just name is "White Light"? Anyway, it is the story of White Light Part I and II. I got home and ran to a cassette player in my den, as mine was broken. I quickly played the tape and the voice of Dave Mallow appeared. He told me about the Green Ranger and Lord Zedd fading his powers. And, then he said it was a special day for the Rangers....until he narrated the whole story with sound clips from "White Light" in between. Many people think it's "White Light" recorded and narrated--but, it's NOT! I was surprised to discover that a big part was edited out of the beginning of the story. All of the statue/slime scenes were gone. Lord Zedd had created Nimrod when he waved his magic staff--he didn't hide her in the statue. Bulk and Skull, Richie, and Rita in her dumpster were also edited out. It didn't really make any difference to the final result but those were the best scenes of the episodes. I was disappointed that they were gone. Part I was not really part of the story adaption. Part II was also not very extensive but it kept most of the important points. The worst part of the adaption was that it went straight from Zedd creating Nimrod to Tommy in the lake to Billy in the white light. The second scene was just the creation of the White Ranger and the battle. A huge disappointment for someone who loved the original story but not bad for someone who enjoyed the creation of the White Ranger more than anything else. I fell into the "lover of the attenuated version". Here is the "cliff notes" for the cassette: SIDE ONE: Narrator: Intro. of Green Ranger Kimberly at the Juice Bar--"Tommy's coming home" Alpha and Zordon shut down the Command Center Lord Zedd creates Nimrod with his staff Tommy is swept in light Rangers go to Command Center Billy falls into the white light Rangers fight Nimrod -- lose battle Rangers go back to Command Center Zordon introduces White Ranger [White Ranger Tiger Power] SIDE TWO: White Ranger uses Tigerzord against Nimrod, Acey, and Dacey Red Dragon Thunderzord helps All zords form Thunder Tigerzord [Go Go Power Rangers] Nimrod, Acey, Dacey destroyed In the Juice Bar, Tommy says "It's great to be back" Bonus: Tommy Interview Bonus: White Ranger Tiger Power dance mix The bonuses were cool. The interview was done by Richard Genelle a.k.a. Ernie. It just had him ask questions and the answers were from "The Official Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Karate Club Video with Tommy" --also used for the PSA "Safety". It was weird to hear "Ernie" talk about Tommy as the White Ranger. The second bonus was a "rock and roll" mix of "White Ranger Tiger Power" with lots of little sound clips in between. In the instumental part of the song, the voice of Lipsyncher says "Ooh....where are those GORGEOUS Power Rangers? I just want to...KISS THEM ALL TO PIECES!" And, they used Tommy's "Tigerzord!" for the chorus at the end, where it was played repeatedly. All in all, it sure brought back a lot of MMPR memories. ;-) TIPS: --Wear headphones--it makes it sound clearer. If you don't have headphones or a place to input them on your cassette player, play the tape somewhere quiet and close your eyes. --Watch "White Light Part I and II" before you listen, unless you don't want to. ;-) --Don't freak out when he says AC and DC. That's how I pronounced it until the last time I saw it. I realized it was Acey [AC] and Dacey. Rhymes with Stacey. Usually Acey is heard as AC so Dacey is heard as DC. CARDS: For once, the cards aren't very exciting. I liked how before they had trivia questions and SOME of the answers included the titles [I didn't get any new ones, though. I collect titles to shows and MMPR was the one I had trouble with the most. I got AOL to get the titles of the shows. I got much more than that. ;-)] Instead each of these cards has the White Ranger: White Ranger with his helmet off, Tommy, White Ranger with helmet on, and White Tigerzord. On the back of the cards are one of the pieces to the "puzzle". Connect all four pieces and get a picture of the White Ranger in action and an autograph of Jason David Frank's. OVERALL SCORE: All in all, I'd give this album an 8. The other albums didn't edit almost the whole original story. I didn't remember "On Fins and Needles" or "Island of Illusion" but when I bought the tapes, I remembered the episodes and could picture what was going on. If someone hadn't seen "White Light", I would NOT recommend that they got this. If you learn just a little bit about something, when you see it it will not look like you expected it to and your first picture of it will get scrambled with your new picture. Does that make sense? On the other hand, the interview and the dance mix [Notice I didn't mention the cards] were morphinomenal!!! [Now I say "Mwor-fin-aaahm-eee- nall"] So, this averged out as an 8. Usually I would have given it a 10, but everyone gets sick of me giving EVERYTHING a 10.
