"Marx Okman has warped us into another dimension!" Don't worry, Power Rangers. This isn't your normal dimension. This is MMPRLand. And, this is a special day here. This is the season finale of the first season of MMPR newsletters. What does that mean? It means Friday is going to have all- new changes to the nl and it will NEVER be the same! Only I know what's in store so stay tuned. But, today--we'll have the spotlight on David Coatsworth (Co-producer of the movie) and Paul Murphy, A.C.S., a MMPR profile on Meinel, a review on the Talking Morpher, David's joke of the day, an article on how to make your own superhero, how episodes are made and Justin's Waterworld column. So, get ready--get set--'cause I'm ready to... GO! THE ONLINE WELCOME MAT Watch your step! There's a rusty nail on the online welcome mat. Who should be watching their step? Why, our three "new" MMPR fans: br550@torfree.net -- better known as Emily Chan [ag216] Timon@america.net --better known as Robert Sean Boyce meiche@teleport.com --better known as Aaron Eiche TINSEL TOWN If any of you live in CA or will be near there soon, tell me!!! Thanx! AGONY ON-LINE Has anyone heard of "Agony In Pink", the adult story about Kimberly and Zedd? I think it's time to stop this thing -- once and for all. an128592@anon.penet.fi is, I think, the address to the guy who wrote it. Why don't we tell him what we think of his story! I am sure A.J. would not be appreciated as a character in an adult story! Together, we can rid the world of this unwanted story! --I wrote this before I read it. I thought it was just a story! It's not! I didn't know it was about rape and torture...anyway, I don't want to talk about it! Tien CO helped me rewrite the story! Tortura dies at least 3 times in it! Rather then Kim getting turned into pizza!;-) IT'S _SIM_MERTIME! Okay, AOL friends, the sim is going to be cool! So far we have a Scorpina, a Zedd, a Finster, a Zordon, ...who else is left? We have the bad guys...we need the Rangers! You can make up a Ranger (Polka-dot, magenta, etc.) Just make sure you know who you are and show up! We will meet in Room "Power Rangers". Go to People Connection, list rooms, available rooms, create room, type Power Rangers. Then, we'll go to Private Room: MMPRSim. BTW, it will be at 5:30PT/8:30ET! It will last about an hour! My advice: A Ranger will be a lot funner than a bad guy! They get to make all the decisions and stuff...but, a bad guy is cool too! "Scorpina--go down to Earth!" "Finster, make the Gnarly Gnome! He was cool!" --LZ. NOTE FROM OSHAUN--ABOUT KIBARANGER: Actually, 'KIBA' means Tiger in Japanese. The "KibaRanger" in the Japanese version was known as "TigerRanger". The talking sword was the "Kiba Sword." BTW did you know that the character in "unmorphed" mode in the Japanese version was actually a 10 or 12 year old boy? [Oshaun--you skipped 11!] Gee, and we all thought it was amusing that the Yellow Ranger in the ZyuRanger was male and yet, in the MMPR Yellow was female. Now, we learn that the White Ranger was really a preteen in the DaiRanger footage. What about a "preteen" in MMPR? I could play the Teal Ninja? I would be a Junior Power Ranger who can't morph out completely but still can help! I would be 10 or 12 years old [Yes, I did skip 11!] because my agent says that's the age roll I'm supposed to play! My character will be Bryan Hillman. Why? Because... YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT1 Well, the first one was easy. I don't know why I chosed it, but I did. Anyway, it was--of course--Kimberly in "Power Ranger Punks." She had been put under a spell of Baboo's which made her 'turn punk'. (Not that bad, if you ask me. ;-) So, Zordon and Alpha teleport the Rangers--Billy and Kimberly (the PRPs) in a force field. So, they're all "Get us drinks, paint my nails" and Kimberly informs them that 'when we get out of here, we are going to kick your sorry buns!' Buns? That sounds kinda cool coming from Punk Kimberly! Besides, if I don't like it, she'll beat me up! Anyway, Alpha got really mad so he left the planet for a vacation [As you can tell, I haven't seen this episode in awhile ;-)] but he came back when he saw putties and got scared.? Hoshiko466 got it right first, then KibaRanger, bryand, sbolton, Herndons, br550, Patri56297, MooTant, and sfabel@success.net! You go, guys! The second quote I didn't expect ANYONE to get. But, strange enough, someone did. It was "Things that are not from this earth, things that have no real worth....take them down!" That was from the putty cluster on "An Oyster Stew." I asked Ron about it a long time ago and he goes, "Hmm....I don't know the episode but I think I remember the tune." He got it confused with "Fight". Poor Mighty Raw ;-). Anyway, how in the world did s.lively@genie.geis.com get it right? That is what I call a good memory. But, of course, s.lively does a lot of work with her tapes and that's how I know she knows every episode by heart now. Anyway, she got it right!!! Today's quotes are: QUOTE 1- "Oh no....I forgot the belts!" QUOTE 2- "I don't know what I'm doing!!!" TRIVIAL PURSUIT This one was too easy. Everyone who guessed got it right. It was "What were the items put in the time capsule?" Well...I don't know how some people could guess all seven. When writing the question, I couldn't remember Jason's--it was his karate trophy. I should have remembered because I watched this episode the other day and I was really mad at Jason for putting his first trophy in! Talk about dumb! Why would Kim give up $50 clothes, Zack give up a CD, Billy a personal computer that he spent a looonngg time making, Bulk and Skull--the Bulkwich--that costs about $50 in supplies? The only ones that make sense are Trini's -- a newspaper - - and Ms. Appleby's -- a pic of the Power Rangers-. So, in case you missed that, it was : Jason: trophy; Trini: newspaper; Zack: CD; Billy: personal computer; Kimberly: clothes, Appleby: pic of MMPRs; Bulk/Skull: Bulkwich Anyway, I'm very suspicious. Almost everyone who gave all seven of the answers quoted the Rangers: like, Zack: a slammin' CD with some phat tunes; The Angel Grove Clarion, etc. Almost everyone included this stuff. I know some of you guys didn't check so you guys are really good! I'm honored to have all of you on my list. Hoshiko466 got it right first (2 points), then KibaRanger (2), Herndons (2), Randi Twin (1) STHJ (1), br550 (1), Patri56297 (1), MooTant (1), sfabel (2), s.lively (2), Today's trivia question is: Who was the first character to say "Morphinomenal." What was the character talking about? Here is the scoreboard: ag216@freenet.toronto.on.ca: 3 points bryand: 1 point CVAdam: 1 point Herndons: 7 points Hoshiko466: 10 points KibaRanger: 6 points MooTant: 5 points Oshaun: 1 point Patri56297: 6 points Randi Twin: 1 point sbolton@nbnet.nb.ca: 1 point sfabel@success.net: 3 points s.lively@genie.geis.com: 5 points STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU: 5 points XSENTAIX: 3 points AND THE WINNER IS.... Hoshiko466 won first, the Herndons got second, and KibaRanger and Patri56297 got third. Everyone did great though! You guys know your MMPR! QUIZ SHOW So, what do the winners get? Well, later on in the month--after my bill clears--there's going to be a MMPR game show in a private room and everyone from AOL can come. The winners will battle it out and it'll be really fun! Who are the contestants?: XSENTAIX, RedRng, Hoshiko466, KibaRanger, and one of the Herndons. It's going to be a big battle so get ready....Ag216--do you have access to AOL? TELLS ALL: From Terri Ann C.'s FAQ guide: How is each episode created? A writer proposes an idea for the show after watching a few episodes of the Japanese source tape to be used. If it's approved by TPTB (the powers that be), the writer writes an outline, which also has to be approved by TPTB. They suggest changes, and then send it along to more TPTB at Fox. Fox suggests more changes, and then the writer writes a first draft. This repeats until the final draft is written. All the American footage is shot, much like it is with any other t.v. show. Then, the Japanese footage is edited in, comprising about a third of the show. A lartec is written (a lartec being a blueprint that the ADR -- Additional Dialog Recording -- writer follows to write the ADR. It details where more dialog should be written covering the Japanese footage and fight scenes). The ADR writer watches the online (edited version of the show but w/o ADR, sound effects and music). Then s/he writes any extra dialog that's needed. The extra dialog is recorded with the actors in a studio and then edited in to the video. (Oh yeah, my source wanted me to mention a name -- Scott Page-Pagter (ADR director, I think). There, I mentioned it. Happy now? :>) Thanx, Terri Ann! LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION Wouldn't you love to be a superhero? Or, at least create one (Like Justin's Generation X). Then take this guide from Emily Chan: Don't you want to create your own superhero, after watching MMPR? Start with either the hero's name or his power's... eventually one leads to another. Super like superman, mysterious like the shadow, or teenage karate black belts like the power rangers? You SHOULD give your hero power's first to help you find a good name like x-men or wolverine. Name them after it's qualites. Don't worry about having to be TOO origonal! The best thing to do is to pick powers YOU wish you had. Where you CAN be origonal is how they got they're powers. Make it interesting!!! Make them difficult to kill, like Wolverine had a healing factor(his bones couldn't be broken either). If you want to make your hero invulnerable, see if you can find a third way to make him so. Also, you can make origonal where and when your hero lives. This makes them unique. The power rangers were teenagers who went to school, affecting their stories in a BIG way, and served detention. While Rita and Zedd tried to destroy the world. They had to figure how to get out of detention without getting into MORE trouble! As for when, you can choose 3rd century, or 30th century! The difference of time makes stories COMPLETELY different. So now you have a hero, his or her powers and where you hero lives. Great! But don't stop.... you still have to make the villain! (Note from Emily) I didn't write this!!! I edited it from a magazine. Don't you think it's just teaching you how to write a story?? I do. =-) Thanx, Emily! TWO THUMBS UP Here's my review on the MMPR Talking Morpher. THE TOY THAT WON'T SHUT UP by Marx Okman Out of the thousands of MMPR toys, this is the one that has always caught my eye! I wanted to buy the original ones--with the actors picture and it plays the communicator beep. But, I didn't and now I'm stuck with the most recent one. I had gone to KayBee's Toy Store in the mall to look for MMPR merchandise. Luckily, they had a peculiar sale that day and everything was slashed. There was a shelf of just MMPR merchandise--including a $6 MMPR sportsbottle for 99 cents. Then I saw the entire bottom of the shelf covered with Mighty Morphin Talking Morphers. Usually $9.99, it was slashed at $7.99...I started fishing through them without thinking... I don't know what attracted me to it but I was attracted. I started pushing all of the buttons on the top, hearing the various sounds. I said, "Mom! It's on sale! Which one should I get?" I don't know why. My mind was focused on the little toy and not at the commotion around me. I think I was interested in it because the other day I had talked about getting the Talking Morpher. I had the McDonalds one but it was orange, too hard to grisp, and it was from McDonalds! I was hoping to get one that looked realistic and this one looked really close. I had just learned how they griped it (I thought it was one hand behind the other and everyone else said palms out--one over the other) so I wanted to give it a try. You have to put your right hand out and support the bottom of the morpher while the left hand rests on top of the morpher. The morpher was created to look exactly like the morphers the Rangers use on the show. Same color, same design--the only difference was the Power Coin. There was none--there was just a picture of the Ranger and when you held it up to the light or held the morpher in a different way, you can see the Ranger's Thunderzord. No Power Coin--and worst of all, you can't even take the morphing lens out. What if I was trapped in Madame Woe's dimension and had to hold the coin up to my head? Well, before you buy--first decide what you want. I almost got Pink, then Blue, then Yellow, then Black, then Red, then White. So, I ended up getting White. My mom and I had to try all of the buttons to see which morpher was best--because batteries were included. So, we picked up every single White Ranger morpher and pressed the buttons. Finally, after 10 minutes, we found the right one. As we left the store, we could still hear the faint sound of "Go Go Power Rangers...Go Go Power Rangers..." When I got home, I ran out of the car with my "morpher" in hand and got in front of the mirror and started yelling out "Tigerzord". I wanted to see if I was holding the morpher right...I was! I pressed the left button: the Tigerzord roared and lights flashed. I pressed the middle button: Go go Power Rangers...go go Power Rangers with flashing lights. Then, the right one: a beeping sound with flashing lights. I also learned that the morpher included a belt clip which I fastened and then pulled out with a strong, "Oh no! Guys...it's morphin time!" Then, Go go Power Rangers! Man...I liked the old one with the communicator sound: beep beep beep beep beep beep. Anyway, overall--this is pretty good! I can never give anything a bad review and this is not bad! But, in my opinion, the old ones were better...just because they were classic, I guess. And, I'm sure that beeping isn't as annoying as the repeated theme song...it's a toy that won't shut up! If you don't believe me, just ask my mom or my sister! They have made several attempts to "rid the world of my morpher once and for all." I wish the Rangers had these on the show...Lord Zedd would surrender after hours of "Go go Power Rangers...go go Power Rangers..go go Power Rangers...go go Power Rangers..." THAT'S ALL FOLKS... Well--that's all for now! Tune in next time for a little more of the last season...22nd issue and 1/3 (For reasons that will be kept for a "surprise")--we'll have the spotlight on Craig Stearns (Production Designer), a profile on Hoshiko466, a review on all MMPR merchandise?, a story on the myths of the zords, info. on the sim, etc.--I NEED MORE! Help! And, if any of you can [beep beep beep beep beep beep] Gotta split now! My talking morpher broke!"Ninjetti...................................................THE KLIPSPRINGER!" Mm__)
