"Like, how did we get here?" You double-clicked on the message and now you are in the World of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Today, you will get to meet Suzanne Todd (The producer of MMPRTM), an interview with the original Rangers (Part I), a MMPR story on the MMPR lady stunt doubles, and a ratecard for MMPR: The Movie. So, sit back, kick off your shoes, and enjoy the "ride". Here we go...off into the World of the Power Rangers!!! Well, we have a LOT of new members today: Here are the morphinomenal MMPR fans who will be joining "The Club.": sfabel@success.net -- better known as Scott Fabel The Coral Ranger. Hoshiko446 -- better known as April gdd@world.std.com -- better known as Gregory D Dearborn (Greg) Mousy99 -- don't know who he or she is better known as. ;-) bryand@cadvision.com -- better known as Dave Bryan The Chartreuse Ranger Meinel -- better known as Ken Mennell Jr. bogart@math.washington.edu -- better known as Steven Bogart jrovan@netcom.com -- better known as Joe Rovang Well, that's it! Let's give a warm welcome to these eight members! ;-) IMPORTANT: Okay, here's the deal! There are about 90 members on this nl and I hope that we can help! Three of the members will be representing a large community of people. I'll let them explain the problem to you: "Bad news -- due to some channel sales/switching locally, MMPR will no longer be airing in St. Louis after next week. We're losing all the Fox Kid's stuff, because our Fox affiliate is moving to another channel, and they're planning talk shows instead. : ( Thanks -- Mary [And, Jeff and Austin] " --MaryMorris "It's official now -- MMPR will no longer be airing in my home town of St. Louis, MO! This is terrible! I'll be there for much of this coming year, and won't be able to watch it! St. Louis is a Top 20 market -- it's absolutely ridiculous that MMPR won't be on there. We'll be losing a big fan base. We should do something! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! James" --JKERWIN@DELTA.IS.TCU.EDU "I need your help!!! In St. Louis, Fox and Channel 2 have switched and they are no longer showing the Power Rangers, or any of the Fox kids lineup!!!!!! I need anyone in the St. Louis area to write a letter to Channel 2 and 30 and call Fox at 800-ABC-3511 and Channel 2 at 800-222-8068. Kansas City picked up the Power Rangers after an outcry from kids and parents!!! We need to do the same here. Keep the Power Rangers on!!!!! Because I'd really hate to beg someone for the entire third season...Thanks MAX, I'm really upset about this, especially since the third season is coming up so soon..... Ami Ree :( --AmiRee" "The situation is thus: channel 30, a UHF station, has been our Fox affiliate up to now. Channel 2 has been our ABC affiliate. They got bought out, and the end result is that ABC is going to be on channel 30, and Fox is going to be on channel 2. The channel 2 management has decided they're not interested in 'kiddie' shows, and so are not picking up the Fox afternoon programming. Syndicated talk shows will go in those slots instead. The channel 30 management will be carrying the regular ABC afternoon programming. The only other independant channel in town, channel 11, is already committed to carrying the 'Disney afternoon' programming. (Which I wouldn't want them to drop in ANY case - I'm completely hooked on GARGOYLES) There's literally nowhere for the show to go - unless one of the channels involved picks it up very early in the morning or somesuch." --MaryMorris Okay, guys! Take charge! Although the St. Louis have a better chance of "outcrying", we all can help! If you can, write a letter! Without St. Louis, MMPR will lose A LOT of viewers and MMPR will lose a LOT of money, and St. Louis people will lose A LOT of good times!!! Please, please, please people--save MMPR! I'm an actor and I'm going to get ready to give the performance of my life ("Aaaaaahhhh...no-no-no-no...why me? Why me? Not Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! You took my life! You took my life! I hate you! I hate you! Put it back! Put it back! Aaaaahhhh! My A.J.! My A.J.! Gone! Gone! No! Noooooooo....!") NEXT SIM/CHAT:If you have AOL, you should know that the next MMPR sim and chat is coming up soon! Justin's working on it right now. ;-) *New members: This is a "contest". You either name the quotes and the episode they're from or you can answer the trivia question. People who get to 10 points win a prize! BTW, there are two quotes--the first one is worth one point and the second is worth two points. If you answer it first, you get a bonus point! :-) YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT Last week's quote 1 was "You dare take on the undefeatable [team]?" Hint: There is a reply of "Sure...we'll take you on." "Yeah, we're always looking for a challenge!" Of course it was said by one of the Stone Canyon Beetles on "The Beetle Invasion." They were looking for challengers and the Rangers were reluctant when Ernie asked them until the "Beetles" came in and boasted about how great they were. So, they decide to play Broomball and end up winning! Yea! STHJ got it right first, then ag216, sbolton, and KibaRanger. Way to go, guys! The second quote is the hardest one I've ever had. It was "In science, nothing is certain." I mentioned that I wanted the person 'whose voice we hear.' I thought that would tip some people, specially since I mentioned the episode in the polls. It was Billy in Kimberly's body on "Switching Places." I wanted someone to answer Kimberly and I would have given it to them. What happened was Squatt had fiddled with Billy's mind-reading machine and when Kimberly and Billy tried it out, they switched places. Then, at the end, they were switching back, and Kimberly (in Billy's body) said, "Are you sure this is gonna work?" And, "Billy" (In Kim's body) answered, "In science nothing is certain." BTW, just have to say, AJ did a better Billy but David's Kim wasn't very good. I guess he was kind of embarrassed to be a valley girl -- hey, look at Paul/Bulk and Jason/Skull! No one got this right! Just wanted to see how sharp you guys were! Most people haven't seen this episode though...;-I Here are today's quotes: QUOTE 1 (1 point)- "Are you late for today or just early for tomorrow?" QUOTE 2 (2 points)- "(music:) She's got the answers. And, she's also got a hold on me. And, she's also got a hold on me...." (I just want the episode...there is no person.) TRIVIAL PURSUIT: Last week's trivia question was "Which monster left a threatining note for a Ranger?" The bonuses were "Which Ranger was the note sent to and what was the note about?" Second bonus: "Who read the note aloud?" Well, the answer was the Dark Warrior. He sent the message in black balloons. When they popped, black material fell out and so did a note. It was to Trini and it said, "If you ever want to see your Uncle Howard again, give me his invisibility formula. Dark Warrior." Kimberly read the note aloud. Sbolton got this right first and got the two of the questions right. KibaRanger answered second and got all three of the questions right. You go! Today's trivia: Why did Tommy tell Ernie he bought Kimberly a pet parrot? Here is the scoreboard (In ABC Order): ag216@freenet.toronto.on.ca: 11 points Ami Ree: 4 points CVAdam: 1 point DavrosPrm: 1 point Jojo Stix: 2 points KibaRanger: 12 points Patri56297: 2 points sbolton@nbnet.nb.ca: 8 points STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU: 6 points WBarezz: 2 points AND THE WINNERS ARE... KibaRanger and ag216@freenet.toronto.on.ca...runner up is Sbolton and STHJ! Everyone did great!!!!!!! Now the scores go back to 0. Everyone can start clean! By the way, Kiba and Ellen--I don't know what the prizes are!!! I'll go "shopping" for--hopefully--MMPR pencils! Why do the Rangers wear Spandex? ______________________________ Here are the responses: ____________________________________ Not much, huh? Come on, guys! Be creative! Give me the punchline for the joke, "Why do the Rangers wear Spandex?" It can be related to the characters on the show, ZyuRanger footage, MMPR merchandise, the budget, the actors, cast, crew. I can think of some right now...but, they're not very appropriate. ;-) Come on guys! You can do this! OOPS... Okay, I goofed. Last nl, I said "She sure has a lot of these," talking about Patri56297. Mistake--Patrick is a boy! ;-) MESSAGE TO MIGHTY RAW: Mighty Raw, please help me! About 5 members and I am having trouble finding the soundtrack for Sweet Valley High. I haven't checked the kids section in the music store but I haven't seen it there before I was looking for it. Anyway, please respond and I'll post a response in the missing ASK MAX column! Thanks a mil! INFO. YOU NEVER WANTED TO KNOW... If you've ever heard of a store called Walgreens, go there and purchase some kind of MMPR merchandise. It always starts a conversation on the show whether everything you're purchasing is MMPR-related or you're just getting some stickers. One lady told me she "hated, hated the show" and another said, "Oh, a MMPR fan?" and another said, "Someone must like Power Rangers," and another said, "Let me guess, you like Power Rangers." Well, I just wish people could check out without their item being observed. I don't mind Power Ranger items but if I got...older...and needed to purchase...stuff (in assorted textures and colors)...I wouldn't want them to say "A ___ fan", "someone must like ___," "I hate, hate ___," or "let me guess, you like ___?" Fill in the blanks. ;-) Here is part I of today's interview: --Disney Adventures ("Mighty Munchin' Power Lunchin'". _Disney Adventures_. Burbank, CA: Disney Magazine Publishing, Inc., April, 1994. Pgs. 24-7.) NEWS FLASH! Rita Repulsa rampages through Burbank--dangerously close to D.A.'s offices! Luckily, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are in town. They defeat Rita for the zillionth time. D.A.'s so grateful, we decide to treat the Power Rangers to lunch. "Meet us at our studio," they say, "cuz we're real hungry." Saving the Earth builds appetites, you know! An escort leads us to a secret building in West Los Angeles. All five Power Rangers join us. Even Tommy, the Green Ranger, stops by to say hi. He tells us he's a special guest Ranger on the TV show. The guys roughhouse before we sit down to a turkey-mashed-potatoes-and-gravy-with-chocolate-cake lunch. The Power Rangers get along well, but they sure don't agree on much. Eavesdrop on D.A.'s Mighty Morphin Power Lunch: DA: Are you anything like your Power Ranger characters? David: [joking] Absolutely not! Austin: Yeah, he's a nerd! David: Billy's not a nerd! He's really super intelligent. I'm not stupid, but I'm not into inventing things like Billy. And I don't wear overalls or glasses. Austin: If someone has a problem, I want to hear about it. And if I can fix it, I want to make that effort, the same as my character. Walter: Zack is very adventurous and curious and energetic, and all that is a part of me. I love dancing and making people smile. Amy Jo: Kimberly's into her clothes and the way she looks, and I'm the opposite of that. Thuy: Trini is very quiet, which I am. She's a very strong character on screen, and I'm very strong. If something's wrong, I need to express it. Part II will be in Friday's nl (if there's room). DID YOU KNOW... Someone (I forgot who--if it's you, tell me and I'll give you credit) told me that on HBO, there was a behind-the-scenes segment of MMPRTM. I'm trying to catch it again but I'll give you more info. when I can. DOES ANYONE HAVE... "A Pressing Engagement" on tape and/or the "Entertainment Tonight" interview? TINSEL TOWN: For those new members, I have been planning a trip to Hollywood for a long time to see the Rangers footprints in the cement. I'll keep you posted on that! THE REAL AUSTIN ST. JOHN: Austin's karate video is coming out or is out now. Look for it! SkJhOl gave me the following article: The following text was taken from Black Belt magazine, September 1995 issue. WHO WAS THAT MASKED WOMAN? You likely know that Bridgett (Baby Doll) Riley was the stunt double for the yellow ranger on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television show and feature film. But who was her sidekick in the pink jumpsuit and mask? None other than British actress and stuntwoman Sophia Crawford. Crawford, 28, arrived in the United States more than two years ago from Hong Kong, where she appeared in more than 30 films. Hoping to further her acting career, she managed to first land a part as a stunt double for the pink ranger in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television show, then worked with Riley as a stunt double on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie, which was released last June. Now Crawford is looking to expand her horizons in Hollywood. "Bridgett and I both felt it was time to move on," Crawford says of her decision to leave the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers show. "We had a great time working on the Power Rangers show. The movie was kind of the ultimate goal." Crawford claims her martial arts training has come while working on films, and not in a studio or in competition. She trained with actor/martial artist Jackie Chan's stunt team during her five years in Hong Kong, and said she has been forced to learn a variety of styles due to the varying preferences of her directors. Is she concerned that Mighty Morphin Power Ranger fans will realize she and Riley are no longer with the show? "No, because we were always (unrecognizable) in the suits," Crawford says. - John P. Patton Now, here is a ratecard on MMPRTM because I'm fresh out of reviews..and room! MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: THE MOVIE Ratecard GOOD: Owen Gleiberman - Entertainment Weekly FAIR: Jami Bernard - Knight-Ridder News Service FAIR: Gene Siskel - Siskel & Ebert BAD: William C. Banks - Prodigy BAD: Roger Ebert - Siskel & Ebert BAD: Teressa L. Elliott - Critics' Choice THAT'S ALL FOLKS... Well, that's all for now. Tune in next time when we have the spotlight on Arne Olsen (Writer of MMPRTM), Part II of today's classic interview, and (IF YOU GUYS HELP ME OUT...) a MMPR review on something, a MMPR movie review! Thanks a mil! I do have some articles I forgot to use and I'll see if I can squeeze them in! Don't forget to send me your punchline for Spandex and such! ;-) I can't wait to hear from you guys! Well, that's all for now. Gotta go!!! "Ninjetti........................................THE TUATARA!!!" Mm__)
