"Power Rangers...online!" You can say that again because in this exciting newsletter, you'll learn a lot about those morphinomenal heros, the Power Rangers and the people who play them. Today you'll get an exciting spotlight on Steve Cardenas who plays Rocky on MMPR, a review on the movie from , a MMPR letter from the Yellow Ranger, and much more of the articles that you find in every issue! So, get ready because "It's morphin time!" HELLO, TWEETSLY! Welcome to the newest member of the club, TWEETSLY! This 12-year-old girl knows her MMPR trivia! Let's see if she can take on the big stuff in "Trivial Pursuit" and "You Can Quote Me On That." TINSEL TOWN Hollywood got cancelled again! If ANYONE lives in California or is going to be near Hollywood next Saturday, please tell me! I want to meet one of you 85 people--is that too much to ask? One day I hope that we all will go to Saban Studios together (They won't let me in!!!) You guys, I'm really upset now. There are so many contests to win an autographed MMPRTM script and I haven't entered yet...I might be able to find a script but not autographed! Aw man, I have to get into Saban Studios! I'll be really depressed until I do! 3RD SEASON I'm not sure if this is correct, but I *might* have a little spoiler for the 3rd season. It might not be right though. Anyway, on the MMPR toy Ninjetti Megazord commercial, it shows a clip of the Ninjetti Megazord fighting a monster with a big tongue, big ears, and big feet, with two Ooze men painted on his chest. I think this may be a scene from one of the third season episodes so the movie *might* have some effect on the 3rd season. They might even mention Ivan instead of pretending he never appeared! YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT... Last weeks quotes were pretty simple. A lot of you got them right. The first one was "There are no minor problems when it comes to safety. Next week could be too late." Of course, this came from Aisha on "Where There's Smoke There's Fire" (Everyone knows the title to that episode for some reason.) Aisha made Ernie inspect the Juice Bar and he informs her that there are only minor problems that need to be fixed and the somewhat snobby Aisha (See, she's not that bad of an actress if she can make everyone think she's a snob for WTSTF) says, "There's no minor problems when it comes to safety...." Then, she asks Tommy why he didn't put up fliers at the mall and ... well, you know the rest! Jojo Stix got it right first, then [Sbolton] ag216@freenet.toronto.on.ca, CVAdam, and Patri56297. Way to go guys! The second quote was "A traffic light?" It was on "The Trouble With Shellshock" (Which Mary Morris sent to me!) and it was said by Squatt (who wasn't very stupid in that episode). Baboo and Squatt were working on a monster while Rita slept and Baboo can't wait to show Squatt what he came up with. They go to Finster's laboratory and Baboo finally reveals their monster. "A clay turtle???" Squatt asks, disappointed. Baboo nods, "Uh-huh. And, this!" Baboo puts out a minature traffic light and sticks it on the clay turtle's head. "A traffic light?" Squatt asks. "What are we going to do with a clay turtle with a traffic light stuck in his head?" Sbolton@nbnet.nb.ca was the only one who got this right! Today's quotes are somewhat easy if you've seen the epsidoe(s): QUOTE 1- "You dare take on the undefeatable [team]." Hint: There is a response of, "Sure, we'll take you on." "Yeah, we're always ready for a challenge." I want to know who said the 1st quote--there are two answers that I will accept and you can just describe one of these people because I don't these people have names. QUOTE 2- "In science, nothing is certain." (I want the answer to be the person whose voice we hear.) TRIVIAL PURSUIT Last weeks trivia was "Name the four episodes that Angela was on." I *think* she was on nine but I forgot one of them. Angela was on in this order: "Foul Play in the Sky" "Life's A Masquerade" "The Green Candle Part I" "Doomsday Part I" "Doomsday Part II" "Lions and Blizzards" "Fowl Play" "An Oyster Stew" Being the kind guy that I am, I'm giving points to everyone who tried and got at least half of the episodes, which was everyone who answered! Two points go to KibaRanger for getting four of them right and STHJ got five of the episodes. One point goes to Ag216 for getting three of the episodes, and Patri56297 got two right. Way to go guys! Today's trivia question is "Which monster sent a threating note to one of the Rangers?" Extra credit #1: Which Ranger was it sent to and what was the note about? Extra credit #2: Which Ranger read the note aloud? Well, I think Extra credits are going to be on Trivial Pursuit permanately. So, good luck and once again, I don't have a prize but it won't be anything big! Oh well...I just want you guys to have fun! And, remember, don't worry if you get 'em wrong. Even I stump myself with some of these questions--and I write them! ;-) Here is the scoreboard (In ABC Order): ag216@freenet.toronto.on.ca: 9 points Ami Ree: 4 points CVAdam: 1 point DavrosPrm: 1 point Jojo Stix: 2 points KibaRanger: 8 points Patri56297: 2 points sbolton@nbnet.nb.ca: 4 points STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU: 4 points WBarezz: 2 points I'm going to let there be three winners this time! I think the prize is going to be a Power Ranger pencil...if I can find some! BTW, I think I'm going to make an ultimate MMPR quote/trivia contest in a future nl. And, I want the 23rd issue to be really good because that's my lucky number! I need everyone's ideas to make this issue the best! Tell me what you'd like to see, read about, etc. My ears are open! I want to make a special to go with the 23rd nl...biographies on all the members (Well, most.) So, send your biographies to me now! Just a short paragraph about you, what you like to do, where you live, your age, MMPR history, biggest wish, any facts about you that you want to include (I might have to edit though.) Oh, this is stressing! This newsletter is fun to write but it's really harder than it seems! Here's some advice: If I start to act really pi$$ed, don't take it personally! This nl just really bugs and I get stressed very easily. I love to hear from you guys though! And, I love writing nls. I wouldn't trade that for the world, but I admit, it does make me get pretty ugly. Here's some more advice: Help me out! If you want to write a MMPR Friday newsletter, go ahead! It will be fun for you and you'll be helping me out and learning how it is behind the scenes! Hope to hear from you soon! ;-) Today's spotlight is on STEVE CARDENAS: If you're crazy about the Power Rangers, then you've probably caught their first big screen scene, The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie. And you probably thought it was _pretty_ exciting stuff (an understatement!) Listen is as Red Ranger Steve Cardenas fills you in on the movie making fun. FAR FROM HOME! "Hi, this is Steve Cardenas, and I play Rocky, the Red Ranger. I sure hope you liked The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and if ya' haven't seen it yet--what are you waitin' for? "The Mighty Morphin crew--Jason Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, Johnny Yong Bosch, Karan Ashley, David Yost and I--flew all the way to Australia to make the movie, and that's really far from home! We were there for almost five months and it took some getting used to. The hardest part was eating--I don't like seafood, and they serce a lot of it in Australia. "WORKIN' IT OUT!" Making a movie is exciting and fun--but it's also hard work. Our movie is a lot different from the TV show--it was really challenging for us. Not to mention the wild special effects--Wow! "But the very best part of being in Australia was that I really got to know my fellow Rangers better. The whole crew spent lots of time together, and now we're totally tight. I hope you get a chance to see The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie real soon--I think you're gonna' love it." STEVE'S POWER STATS! Birthday: May 29, 1971--he's 21 Height & Weight: 5'8 and 150 lbs/ Hair & Eyes: Both are brown. Where He Lives: A townhouse in Valencia, CA What He Drives: A black BMW. What He Likes: Classic rock music, Mexican & Italian food & Steven Seagal movies. AWWW!!!!! I live only one hour from Valencia, where Steven and Saban Studios is! I go there all the time! When I went to my dad's house, we would meet at the McDonalds right in front of the townhouses. And, Six Flags is there too. And, I still haven't seen Steven or any of the Rangers! Know what else is weird--Thuy lives in Irvine and that's where my dad lives too. I used to spend my summers there. And, Kevin Costner lives right above my dad's house and my sister and family saw him in the checkout stand at a supermarket nearby. But, I haven't met Thuy!!! When will I ever meet these people who probably passed me on the streets? Here is today's MMPR profile: SCREEN NAME: Sbolton@nbnet.nb.ca REAL NAME: Amanda Bolton CURRENT RESIDENCE: Gondola Point, New Brunswick, Canada BIRTHDATE: 2/28/80 FAVE EPISODE(S): "The Wanna-Be Ranger" and "Best Man For The Job" FAVE QUOTE(S): "No way...really?" "Ah man. This is a tough one." 'I know!' I can't figure it out! 'Me neither!'" "I'm a frog." and many more.... I NEED MMPR PROFILES! I only have received about 16 of us 85 members! Please, if you are one of those 69 people who hasn't sent in theirs, please do so! Thanx a million! Here is an update on the polls... POLL 1- FAVE RANGER [From greatest # of points to lowest # of points.] 1. PINK RANGER - 9 points 2. WHITE RANGER- 6 points 3. BLUE RANGER - 4 points 4. RED RANGER- 3 points GREEN RANGER- 3 points 5. Zordon Spin Fighter --Patri56297 Ranger Fruit Drinks and Granola Bars --Randi Twin POLL 3- BEST AND WORST Today's Best and Worst comes from Patri56297 (She has a lot of these): BEST- "You can watch the show." WORST- "You can't meet the actors." That's not true, Patri...you just have to be at the right place at the right time! I've passed Saban Studios at least five times but not once have I gone in!!!!! How do I??? POLL 4- NOBODY'S PERFICT! I noticed a BIG mistake. On "The Rockstar", Billy doesn't morph out for no reason. But, when the Rangers are fighting Scorpina by a pool, there is a Japanese man nearby, struggling for help. He is never explained and I didn't know who he was. After watching ZyuRangers, I figured out that he was the Japanese Blue Ranger--that's why Billy didn't morph out. He wasn't in the old Rockstar footage so they had to take him out someway. This episode is kind of messed up. The Blue Ranger never morphs out but one scene later he appears with the other Rangers. Also, "Trini" and "Zack" (Actually, people from ZyuRangers) fall into a pool and are never helped out but they appear with the Rangers later on. --Marx Okman POLL 5- WHO IS Marx Okman? When you guys are done with your pics, e-mail me for my address if you don't have a scanner! Here's a clue for the day: I'm a boy. Well, that won't really help but I'll give more polls every issue. The Japanese Pink Ranger is pretty cute too but Scorpina is my kind o' gal! ;-) POLL 8-LOL 1. THE WEDDING PART I- 3 points 2. BEST MAN FOR THE JOB- 2 points ROCKY JUST WANTS TO HAVE FUN- 2 points 3. BLUE RANGER GONE BAD- 1 point DIFFERENT DRUM- 1 point FOUL PLAY IN THE SKY- 1 point RETURN OF THE GREEN RANGER- 1 point SOMETHING FISHY- 1 point SWITCHING PLACES- 1 point WILD WEST RANGERS- 1 point MAX'S NOTE: If you've seen "Switching Places", you'd better change your vote! That one was the only one focused on comedy! That one is really funny! If you haven't seen it, you won't understand how funny it is. When you see "Billy" in lipstick and Kimberly blow up a computer, "Billy" blow up the home ec room and splatter cheese over everyone, Billy and Kimberly get confused when they are morphing out, "This is Billy--uh, Kimberly, uh-- Billy." It's F-U-N-N-Y! And, when Bulk and Skull switch... POLL 9-MUSIC BOX FAVE MIGHTY RAW SONG: 1. WE NEED A HERO- 5 points 2. I do an impression of Kimberly doing an impression of Rita (On "Beauty and the Beast") I wish I could do it for you guys! I really get into it! HA HA...STOP! MY SIDES ARE ACHING! Why do the Rangers wear Spandex? ______________________________ This time, you guys write the punchline!!! Why do the Rangers wear Spandex? You tell me! It doesn't have to be just on the show! It can mention the movie, MMPR merchandise, ZyuRangers, the new Rangers, etc. EVetter127 received a letter. I'll let her tell you about it: I received a letter postmarked San Jose, CA. I don't know anyone from there. I don't know if anyone else received one, or if it was written by someone on a computer service. Here is what it said: Anger and Hope ----------------------- Reflecting back on the time I spent as a ranger, I can surely say that this has been a time both of anger and hope. Through the feat of the batttles when things were at their worst, to the happy re-unitement of the team, the rangers and I have been united against all evil. Rita proved no match for us, but it was through sheer teamwork and hope; we made it through the hardest times. Jason was a leader, pure and simple. But not so simple...his boundless courage persevered even in the face of fear itself. Zack's lighthearted spirit and his love for his fellow creatures both great and small gave us all something to look forward to each time we met; his aura of happiness probed quite often contagious. Kimberly's many talents gave way to the creatice defeats of Zedd's creatures that became her trademark. The heartbreaking saga of the Green Ranger, and of the White created a lasting bond between all of us. Tommy had been through so much, yet he still persisted; providing a lesson that will not easily be forgotten. You cannot imagine my incredible sadness as I write th8is. the memory of my life as a Mighty Morphin Poweer Ranger will burn forever in my mind; an eternal flame, a tribute to what the rangers forever stand for. I look forward to the future with grim determination, anger, and hope. Anger, not at Zordon or aisha, but at myself; I had the opportunity to do so much more...yet still hope for the future remains. One last request to those I once knew...I ask that you pass along this message to any that would appreciate its contents. In your letters, clubs, and computer netweorks, let is message spread. As long as hope is not lost, the rangers will remain forever united, the ultimate fighting force; if only in our minds. Do not give up. My love and best wishes to all who are rangers in their hearts and thoughts. Fondest farewells, fellow rangers. The YELLOW RANGER ----------------------------- Evon Weird! I don't think someone else wrote that for Thuy--they wouldn't make it so deep. That is definetely from Thuy's heart and I wish I could go to Irvine so I could hug her and tell her we love her. But, n-n-noooo.....I can't meet any of the Rangers. Wzup w dat? MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: THE MOVIE - * Critic: Teressa L. Elliott DIRECTOR: Bryan Spicer CAST: Jason David Frank, Steve Cardenas, David Yost, Johnny Yong Bosch, Amy Jo Johnson, Karan Ashley, Paul Freeman, Paul Schrier, Jason Narvy, Gabrielle Fitzpatrick PRODUCER: Haim Saban, Shuki Levy & Suzanne Todd (20th Century Fox) SCRIPT: Arne Olsen PHOTOGRAPHY: Paul Murphy, A.S.C. EDITING: Wayne Wahrman, A.C.E. MUSIC: Graeme Revell GENRE: Action - PG - 1:25 Ah, summer! A time of tan lines, baseball and wannabe blockbusters at the local multiplex. It was inevitable that a film version of the wildly popular TV show "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" was going to be made at some time. Afterall, filmmaking by franchise is Hollywood's "sure thing." But I sure hope it doesn't end up a blockbuster, because "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" is a piece of drivel. There is actually a plot to the film, although it is simply the means to get the six color coordinated teenagers into various martial arts fights where they predictably vanquish the bad guys. In case you're still stuck in the Neanderthal era of kid TV and think that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles rule, I should explain that the Power Rangers are a group of six ordinary teenagers who have been chosen by a disembodied head to fight evil in our world. To do this, they have cool martial arts moves and are able to "morph" into super fighting machines when needed. And here the morphing is needed when the evil Ivan Ooze is released from his egg-shaped prison and begins to take over the earth. Unfortunately for the hapless Power Rangers, he has also stolen power from their mentor. So, off they go to a distant planet where they can get enough juice to get him back online. Amidst all this we have a few kicking, punching, flailing fights and at the end, a few morphing techniques which result in shiny, robotic fighting machines. I don't want to seem too much of a spoilsport, so I'll admit that the morphing stuff is somewhat interesting (even if it's already yesterday's technology) and fans of martial arts will enjoy all the kicking and thrashing about. Parents too will appreciate the lack of profanity and sex in the film--although they might not appreciate the violence. That said, I do have a question: Why does one of the female Power Rangers have to be dressed in pink? And why does she spend all the time in very short shorts and a midriff-baring shirt? (The other female Ranger in the group is in yellow, and while she wears short shorts as well, at least she's in a sweatshirt). Is the point that while girls can be tough enough to be Power Rangers, that power and control must still be tempered by presenting them as sex objects? I mean, how easy is it to high-kick in tight shorts? (C) Copyright Critics' Choice 1995. All Rights Reserved. Did I put this review in before? See--I thought I made a mistake when I was talking about everyone putting down AJ's outfit--they meant Dulcea too. But, they also meant AJ so I wasn't wrong! Like I said, she's not going to wear some dorky outfit--she's Kimberly Hart, darn it!!! This Teresa chick is full of it! (I never, ever cuss unless there is a MMPR basher involved!!! Luckily, most of you are safe! ;-) ) BTW, kids are writing to Siskel and Ebert and complaining about bad reviews. 85 more letters will surely get them the point. Maybe they'll feel sorry for us and as an appology, let us MEET THE RANGERS!! Ah, I want to so bad!!! They're always right by but I never take action and go find them! If I did, it would be hard to explain how much I like the show! COMING SOON....interviews with MMPR members. First up will be Justin! This will start in about 4 more issues. THAT'S ALL FOLKS... Next time we'll have Part I of an interview with Brian Spicer (The director of MMPRTM), we'll have the spotlight on somebody (?), another MMPRTM review, a review on some MMPR merchandise (SEND YOURS IN NOW!!!!), a response to Ha ha...(Why do Rangers wear spandex?), and more---I NEED YOUR HELP MORE THAN EVER! This an interactive newsletters and _ALL_ of you can help! So, be a part of the nl and work with me here! ;-) And, if you want to do a Friday nl, tell me! Well, that's all for now. Tune in next time for more drama (Like Thuy's letter), more comedy (Like Ha ha...), more fun (Never too late to start!). Well, that's all for now. Gotta make like a banana and split...
