"Oh no....how'd we end up here?" Well, you simply double-clicked on the message and you entered the magical world of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Stay for awhile and you will learn a lot about these morphinomenal superheros. The spotlight will be on Thuy Trang, there will be a story on Thuy escaping from Vietnam, a review on the MMPR soundtrack, an interview with Johnny Yong Bosch and a MMPR:TM review from a famous columnist and much, much, more! So, buckle up, relax, and prepare for one wild ride! Hee hee hee! ;-) Let's say goodbye to KHurleyben, who wants off the nl list NOW or will report me to AOL security! Exccccuussssseeee me. The phone goes dead, the newsletter is about 4 hours late, and he expects me to remember to take him off the list! }:-( <---don't make me get ugly! And, goodbye to L despair, who can't participate in the newsletter, due to lack of time. Bye, L despair--we'll all miss you! IMPORTANT!!!!: If you have AOL or can have access to it on the 16th, listen up! The Power Ranger chat will only be about 15-30 minutes long on July 16th at about 5:00 PM PST to 5:30 PM PST (8:00 to 8:30 EST) in the PUBLIC room called Power Rangers. This is to clear up any MMPRsim questions you may have. Then, at about 5:30 (Everyone should already be in the chatroom, that's where we're meeting between 5:00-5:30/8:00-8:30) we'll go to private room MMPRSim and do our thang! Here's Justin telling more about this morphinomenal sim (If only sim began with a M. :( ) Rules 1. Any communication between people that isn't part of the sim (If you want to tell someone you like the sim, or something like that) must be done through an Instant Message. 2. The Ranger you must play must be the only one of that Ranger. No 2 Red Rangers allowed. 3. Please (I know this won't be a problem) no cussing. There will be a few younger people in the sim [MAX'S NOTE: I believe I'm the youngest at 13 and if one of you says a word, my mom will sue you! :P] 4. Every sim someone will be needed to play Zordon. I will do it the first sim. (Zordon creates the story, tells the story as IMPORTANT things happen, and plays the part of Zordon.) We will also need a Lord Zedd (Who I think Mark might play the first sim, but I don't know) and Rita. We need to have at least 5 Rangers each sim (That doesn't look like it'll be a problem) and the role of Zordon and Zedd must be used. [NOTE: I'll be whoever is needed. Right now, if we need a Zedd, I'll be him. :)] 5. YOU MUST ABOVE ALL .... ENJOY THE SIM ! Your bro, Justin Green Ranger Thanks, Justin! Hope to see all of you AOL's there. Remember, meet at the chatroom (Power Rangers is the name--it's NOT a private room.) and always feel free to e-mail or IM Marx Okman or XSENTAIX if you're having trouble and need help. RedRng, I just want to say that I reread one of your letters (About Command Center, if you know what I'm talking about) and I want to say I feel for you (That's good, right?) and I hope that things get better! Don't worry--life will never get worse, it will always get better. Also, send your MMPR things to Ami Ree for her fanzine. I have a picture that I'm mailing her and I'm going to write some songs and stories or whatever for her too. Ami Ree, do we send you pictures of ourselves or do we send them to RedRng or both? I'm a ditz! If you live in California too long, it happens! :? HOLLYWOOD, HERE I....GO! BTW, for those of you who actually care, my Hollywood trip is canceled until the 22nd because I got a temporary "job" at my mom's work and I have to "work" on Saturday so the trip is canceled until the 22nd. I know no one cares--but, one more week until I step on Amy Jo's feet. ;-) ASK MAX Q: Do you know if there are any plans to release the SCORE of the MMPR movie. Just wondering. --JKERWIN@DELTA.IS.TCU.EDU MAX'S ANSWER: No, there are no plans. The soundtrack is the only album that will be released for the movie. Q: How were the five original Rangers picked and why were the three replacements introduced into the storyline? --Zed44 MAX'S ANSWER: Here's some good news. The first episode (Day of the Dumpster) is out on video and you can rent it if you go to the children's section of the video store. When Rita came from the dumpster, Zordon informed Alpha to teleport five teenagers with attitudes to the Command Center, and Alpha disgustingly did so. How they chose these certain 5 is unknown. They must have planned to use them before. And, the three replacements were introduced to the show on "A Ninja Encounter Part I" when Aisha, Rocky, and Adam saved their teacher's baby from falling off a cliff. This was the beginning of a beautiful friendship (Especially when the original three Rangers went to a peace conference and the actors were fired (Not exactly fired though) when they asked for more money.) :) YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT... Last week's Quote 1 was "Oh , my gosh....it's my poodle's birthday and I forgot to buy her a present!" This, of course, was said by Kimberly in "Happy Birthday, Zack." The Rangers were pretending they forgot about Zack's birthday because they were throwing a surprise party. On the big day, Zack hints about his birthday around Kimberly at her locker. Kimberly says, "Oh my gosh!" Zack says, "Oh, you just remember something, right?" Kim goes, "Yeah, and I feel really terrible about it." Zack adds, "Don't worry. People forget things all the time." Kim goes, "Yeah but this was really important to someone that I really loved and I hope that SHE'LL forgive me?" Zack: "Don't worry about--wait, she'll? You said she'll?" Kim: "Yeah, it's my poodle's birthday and I forgot to buy her a birthday present. Why? What did you think I was talking about?" Zack: "(disappointed) Nothing (walks away.)" Kim: "Thanks for reminding me about my poodle." Later in the episode, the gang tells Kim that Zack's disappointment now will make him more excited later. Kim says in the coolest voice, "You're right." A lot of you answered both this one AND the next one, but I can only give points for ONE correct quote so of course I chose the one with more points. Other than that, no one answered it! :I The 2nd quote was "Hey, look--it's Kimberly!" If you watched, the Think Pink Week Preview (Or, the Think Pink Week) you would have recognized this quote! It was said by Skull in "Foul Play in the Sky." Bulk and Skull were in an airport, watching the planes take off through binoculars, when SKULL noticed Kimberly walking to a plane with her uncle. After squealing, "Hey, look--it's Kimberly", the two "rebels" followed her to the plane and begged her to let them go, even though Kim was totally against the idea. (Watch A.J. on this scene. She did REALLY good.) R Donnely got this right, then STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU, and then CVAdam. Way to go, guys! Today's quotes are: QUOTE 1- "Wait, you gel before you curl?" QUOTE 2- "I'm getting dizzy...stop the ride!!!" "TRIVIAL PURSUIT" Last weeks trivia question was "Name the only three Rangers that have been kissed on the show." BTW, I meant a kiss on the lips and most of you mentioned pecks and stuff. The answer is Zack, Kimberly, and Tommy. Zack got a peck on the cheek from Angela, the girl of his dreams, in "Fowl Play" and they did more of a kiss on "Lions and Blizzards." Kimberly and Tommy kissed EACH OTHER on "The Green Candle Part II." Tommy was nervous about asking Kimberly to the school dance, and after he lost his powers, they kissed at the lake (Where Billy and Marge were supposed to meet in "Peace, Love, and Woe"). Then, Tommy said, "Boy, I've been wanting to do that for a long time." And, then he asks her to the dance and she says, "Yes" of course (After making him suffer by not answering and then laughing and saying, "Didn't want to make it too easy for you.") Then, Tommy picks Kim up by the waist and spins her around. CAN SOMEONE WHO SAW "THE GREEN CANDLE" TELL ME IF IT ENDED ON THE SPINNING PART OR AT THE DANCE? As you might have noticed, Kimberly's kiss paragraph was much longer than Zack's. Take a guess why. Jason David got the part I have been trying to get since 1993. "BOY, I've been wanting to do that for a long time!" The people who got this right were WBarezz, WhiteRng, STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST. EDU, Jojo Stix, and tguingab@vms1.gmu.edu. Today's trivia question is "Who is the smartest on the moon and who is the dumbest?" Here is the scoreboard: Jojo Stix: 6 points RedRng: 4 points DavrosPrm: 3 points Chris7118: 1 point WhiteRng: 2 points Randi Twin: 3 points DarwnONeil: 1 point CV Adam: 5 points XSENTAIX/FIM1UR2: 7 points Ami Ree: 2 points Tien CO: 4 points STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU: 4 points Patri56297: 4 points WBarezz: 2 points tguingab@vms1.gmu.edu: 1 point R Donnely: 3 points Today's spotlight is on Thuy Trang/Trini. It comes from Terri Ann C.'s FAQ guide: _Thuy Trang_ Born: December 14, 1973 What She Did With Her Life Before Power Rangers: Moved with family from Vietnam at a young age. Attended Banning High school in L.A. Also starred in a local public service announcement about racism. Pursued a degree in Civil Engineering at UCIrvine (earned a scholarship to attend there). It has been mentioned, but never proven, that she may have left school to be a full time actress, although in the articles I've read, she says that school comes first. If she's still in college, she'll be a junior in the fall of 1994. Hobbies: Tennis, Jogging, Reading Romance Novels Favorite colors: Earth Tones. Used to have 2 items of yellow clothing, but has since given them away. _Trini Kwan_ Age: 16 Birthday: August 9 Sign: Leo Height: 5'3" Weight: 110 lbs. Birthplace: Houston, Texas Favorite Food: Extra-Spicy Chili Dogs Favorite Subject: Geometry Hobbies: Kung-Fu and collecting Teddy Bears Speaking of Thuy Trang, read this article that I found cruising online (It's from awhile ago): Today Pres. Clinton establishes normal diplomatic relations with Vietnam. Nearly two decades ago Thuy Trang escaped from that country, her homeland, on an over-crowded cargo vessel, and arrived in California. But she has never forgotten her ties to her homeland, Vietnam. She remembers her past, but has grown up as a Vietnam refugee in the United States. She is proud of her heritage, but happy with her new homeland. She speaks, perhaps, for the whole community of Vietnamese who grew up, like her, facing new customs and conventions, but retaining their joint ancestry. A student at UC Irvine (studying civil engineering) before she was chosen for the Power Rangers, she makes an interesting and articulate commentator on the current political situation between the United States and Vietnam. And the fact that million of kids know her name and face is an added bonus. CONTACT: May we put you in touch with Thuy Trang to add an extra dimension to your coverage on this historic moment in U.S.-Vietnam chronology? David Crowley of Lee Solters, [Phone number]. I don't get it but it's about Thuy so let's all pretend like we know what went on. (:?) It was this little Power Ranger (I saw Red, White, and I think Pink) and it was probably 12 inches or so high, and it was a soft body. And it had a parachute attached to the back, like I guess you throw it in the air and the thing parachutes down. Whatever it did it was really strange. That's my vote :)"--Tien CO POLL 3: BEST AND WORST OF BEING A POWER RANGER FAN BEST -- Two things. It brought me closer to my little brother, and it allowed me to join this newsletter, which introduced me to a special friend....you know who you are, sweetie. :) --Tien CO WORST -- I haven't really come to a *worst* yet, except two of my best friends tease me, but that's all in good fun. :) --Tien CO Take care, Angela =) POLL 4-MISTAKES On "Peace, Love, and Woe", after the Rangers defeat the putties, they discuss about Marge's disappearance. They teleport to the Command Center and the first thing Zordon says is, "I'm afraid Jason is right. Rita is behind this." But, Jason didn't say one word during the discussion of the disappearance of Marge. --Marx Okman On V.R. Troopers, there was an episode where Grimlord is creating earthquakes to get to the center of the earth. In the end, it's Tao's birthday ...and the group (Tao, Kaitlin, JB, and Ryan) turns around to get some cake, only to find out that Jeb (Ryan's dog) had beaten them to it. Well, Ryan got upset with his dog...so upset he called him Zeb (Instead of Jeb). Zeb is the name of the dog that portrays Jeb.-- STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU MAX'S NOTE: That episode was called "Digging For Fire." Now, here is the interview with Johnny Yong Bosch (Girls, stop screaming!!!) It comes from Teen Beat's September 1995 issue. --Teen Beat ("The Power Rangers Get Personal!".) _Teen Beat_. New York: The Sterling/McFadden Partnership, September, 1995. Pg. 86.) Now here is the interview with Teen Beat (TB): TB: "Of your co-stars, to whom are you closest?" JYB: "Karan and Jason. Karan and I go out and stuff, 'cause we live in the same apartment complex." TB: "Did any of you know each other before getting MMPR?" JYB: "No, but what was kind of funny was that Karan was going to North Texas University, and that's where I was going to go and we were both going to major in film. I thought that was kind of cool." TB: "Are you still into studying film?" JYB: "Actually, I want to continue doing movies, mostly acting in them." TB: "There's a part in the movie where you become ninjas. How does that come about?" JYB: "There's a part in the movie where we lose out powers and Ivan Ooze, the new villain, tries to take over the world, We have to go find this person who has the new power, so we go to another planet and go through this big adventure. Finally we get it and come back and save the earth." TB: "Are you approached by fans in public?" JYB: "Yes, sometimes when I don't wear a hat or a big jacket, people notice me. It's cool, though, I kind of like it. Before, I wasn't too popular, but now I know what that's like." TB: "What do you do when you aren't working?" JYB: "I play soccer a lot, or I just work out. Sometimes I work out with Jason. We go to his apartment where there's a big patch of grass, and we do new kicks and stuff like that." Thanks Teen Beat and Johnny Yong Bosch. ONE OF THE COOLEST GUYS AROUND... Okay, about that JamesX13 dude. I am sorry for asking you all about this, but I had to write to everyone so everyone knew the situation and that there is an "impostor" online (Or, so I thought). This newsletter takes 4 or 5 hours every two days and it usually keeps me up past midnight. I do this hard work (With Justin's help) for you guys and I know everyone appreciates MMPR and I hope, the nls. And, I thought somebody was just pretending to be a MMPR fan but James13X (Who turned out to be a REALLY cool guy) e-mailed me and told me that there was NOT a "traitor" online. A MMPR fan had simply forwarded him one issue of the newsletter which he didn't like. He only exaggerated about a person pretending to be a Power Ranger fan so that he would kind of make me mad! Sorry to EVERYBODY on this nl who's mad at me. If you know James13X, it just proves that you're cool. ;-) And, I don't want ANYBODY, ANYBODY at all to get mad at me. I was not accusing anybody, I was accusing EVERYBODY, only because ruling anyone out would be a serious fau-paux in the detective world (I watch Ghostwriter, okay?). And, I don't want anybody at all to feel like I was accusing them. I accused everybody. And, I especially want to say sorry to Stomac1185, ZEENO, Habur, EBelcher, and Darlene879. I know that all of you are MMPR fans but none of you had a profile, so I couldn't rule you out. But remember...in the words of the Rembrants, I'll be there for you...(I don't KNOW how that fits in...let's all just pretend it does. :) ) Today's MMPR profile comes from Rufio. SCREEN NAME: Rufio/STHJ@MARISTB.MARIST.EDU REAL NAME: Jennifer Harmer CURRENT RESIDENCE: Wappingers Falls, NY BIRTHDATE: 10/28/76 FAVE EPISODE: Too many to list FAVE QUOTE: Most of the funny stuff from the movie. "Get a clue!" --Max from "Mighty Max" many more, check my .sig for new quotes every week or so Next, we'll hear from Tien CO, WBarezz, and then Psyclone12. If I left anyone's profile out, please tell me ASAP! Here is a quote submitted by DVBV52D@prodigy.com. "Here's an excerpt from a Detroit newspaper, reviewing the movie from a parent's and a child's point of view" "For kids: There are a lot of new weapons, including a Thunderwhip for Kimberly. For Parents: When naval bearing Kimberly and hunkish Tommy exchange that knowing smile, you know what else the Thunderwhip is used for." Tee hee hee hee. But I see the writer's point. Didja notice the closeness between the two (in the movie)? Something's going on, no doubt." Well, Marx Okman, wants to put on an evil grin and say, "Now that Kim is leaving the show, nothing will ever go on anymore! It will be all over! Ha ha ha! Ooh, A.J.'s departial has it's ups and downs. ;-) BTW, if they kiss goodbye, I swear I'll throw something at the TV screen. PRODUCT TESTER Welcome to this new section of the MMPR nl. Instead of the long-awaited MMPR CD Rom game review (There is nothing to review--it's not a game, but I'll work on it), the first review will be on MMPR:TM soundtrack. It's by Justin: "CROSS MY LINE" FOUND! by Justin Harvey I saw the movie...again. This time I found where "Cross My Line" was played. You are all going to hate this .... They wasted that song on the scene where Wizard Ooze was handing out his Ooze to the teens of Angel Grove. It should have been used for a fight scene or something like that. For the Ooze scene, you can slightly hear it. You have to pay attention. ( They even cut out his vocals ! ) Oooh, I got the MMPR movie CD. It's worth it. There are a few songs on there that are good. "Cross My Line," "Are You Ready?" "Kung Fu Dancin'" and "SenSurround." It does lack the songs that Raw does, but overall...it's good. I recommend that everyone gets it. Your bro, Justin (Do I seem like a product tester?) MMPR MOVIE REVIEW: Here is today's review on the movie. It is by Joel Siegel and it is from Capital Cities/ABC: THE MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS This film actually beat Judge Dredd at the box office. But the grosses that count for this film, based on the TV series that is insanely popular with post-Sesame Street kids are at the toy store. This isn't a movie, it's an infomercial. A clone of the TV series with better though far from movie-acceptable special effects, I found this a movie critics' nightmare: A film not good enough to watch and too loud to sleep through. Even my young friend Ben Kramer, who personally guided me through the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles phenomenon asked me:" where's the story? It might be OK for kids six, seven and eight," Ben said. Ben, of course, is nine. And a half. And, to be fair, my interest did perk up when the rangers met the decidedly PG-13 rated Dulcea, Master Warrior, who shows the rangers their Ninjetti identities, in order, of course, to sell ranger fans all new Ninjetti costumes in six coordinated colors. There are also Ninjetti villains and, at the films order-now, time is running out climax, Ninjetti Zords.(A Zord being the manifestation of one's inner being in the form of a missile-firing ship available at toy stores everywhere.) Look at the bright side: it's a an easier watch than Judge Dredd and, besides, they don't let six year olds have credit cards. THAT'S ALL FOLKS... Next time, on a tour through Power Rangers land, we will have Walter Jones in the spotlight, an interview with David Yost (Randi Twin, Terri Ann C., calm down!) a story on The Future of the Power Rangers, a MMPR movie review, and (possibly) a special edition, with the AOL sim! Don't forget--it starts at 5:00-5:30PM PST/8:00-8:30PM EST in the Power Rangers chat room and then we'll go to the private room. (If you're late just go to MMPRSim or e-mail or IM Marx Okman or XSENTAIX). And, there will be much, much more in the next nl so stay tuned. Ninjetti...............THE CROCODILE!
