OT Review-Minutes To Midnight Special Edition
Well, seeing as the UK and Europe get minutes to midnight a whole day before the US. I thought I’d review it. I got the special edition but couldn’t write sooner as my college bans Rangerboard. I got the Special edition as it was a couple quid more and I always buy them for Linkin Park, Metallica and Evanescence.
Anyway, first the track listing, note: Behind your lies didn’t make it:

Well, what to say about this long anticipated album, well I’m a bit disappointed actually. The special edition looks nice, and is probably worth the money, but the album itself is another matter.
I was surprised to notice Behind your lies missing as this was one of the better new songs (AKA QWERTY). Also I believe Mike’s stint with Fort Minor has changed the band beyond recognition. If you’re expecting olden time LP, be in for one hell of a shock.
Despite the collaboration on bleed it out, Mike and Chester is scarcely found singing together, the tracks being solely Mike or Chester. The pitch seems dryer than before, the tempo softer and the overall feeling dampened. While it is a good album. I feel the 1127 days wait since Meteora to have been in vein, this album would have been better received 2 years ago.
I feel this is what they were trying for when they introduced us to the shambles that is reanimation. Track 1, seemingly trying to imitate the subsections like chalice and foreward. I believe out of the 100 or so demos that they wrote, only 4 that made it through are worthy of Linkin Park’s greatness, being What I’ve done, Shadow Of The Day, Hands Held High and Valentines Day. The last songs on the album were an especial disappointment.
I also feel that Linkin Park’s use of swearing is comical, I have said it for years, and expletives don’t suit their music. A lot of this album I believe was inspired not only by the Fort Minor stint, but some of the Riffs used are very similar to the early Superhero demos and the eventual Hybrid Theory EP.
So, would I recommend this album, yes, be it only for collector’s value, the music has been a great disappointment to me, and while I like Linkin Park’s music as a whole, I feel they have let us down with the timing of this album. I give it generously an 8/10 at a stretch.
Personally I would wait till the new Metallica album coming out later this year I believe.
