Hey everyone,

Quick warning- there are rumours circulating around www.rangerprops.com where most of the hardcore PR cosplayers 'live' that Disney and Toei company are going to be at Power Morphicon, looking for Screen Used Props amongst the fans. This rumour- emphasis on rumour, has it that the following items are at risk if seen-

1. Hand held props (not toys) including such items as Buzz's SPD blaster sold on ebay, and powerprops' Magistaff.
2. Helmets, all screen cast, and possibly accurate fanmade helmets are at risk of being confiscated.
3. Suits, including civilian SPD costumes and ranger suits that are accurate, ie follow the patterns of the original Toei design.

This can mean for the hardcore fan, there entire costume being confiscated, as after all they are built to be super accurate. This can accumulate to $1000's of dollars of loss for the individual, not to mention the loss of possibly irriplacable treasures.

They can do it within law, will not hesitate to do it, and are serious. Do not underestimate the power that Disney has. It would not be the first time they have confiscated props etc that were on sale.

This is only a rumour, but due to the magnitude of it, it is important to take seriously.
I suggest the following precautions-

1. Use only clearly fan made costumes, like using Rouge's helmets and possibly altering the design on the unitard slightly.
2. Go around out of costume first, to check for signs of these disney/toei reprosentatives. If it happens, word will be all over the con.

I personally dont believe this will occur, but am not stupid enough to ignore it. Lets hope for the best, and see that Morphicon is the best PR con ever.

Possibly, but the point is if the item is an exact copy of the screen used one, ie cast from the original then it is illegal. This is because the original was sculpted by Toei, and the props were never officially released. Therefore Toei owns that design, and the copy a person has had to have orignally been copied from a STOLEN original, since none were released, it had to have been stolen. The copy is therefore stolen property, and can be lawfully retrieved.

It sucks I know. Basically you can argue it till the cows give birth to donkeys, but Disney have much stronger lawyers than you or I, we would not win against them.

Its not 100% a risk, just be cautious thats all.

They may have bought it leagly but the question is does the person who sold it have a legal right to sell it. So basicly if disney or Toi did not sell it it is stollen property. Could cause lots of problems. No prosicution but with in there rights to take it.

Toei isn't within their rights to take anything.......We aren't in japan I asked my friend who's a law major and he said that once that stuff Crossed international waters (EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO) It no longer belongs to them period Especially if the prop the person is carrying around is from the newer seasons of pr...If it somehow showes up in California in someone elses possesion, Disney Almost Key word Almost can do nothing about it, My friend says any of you guys walking around with that stuff, should know your rights, the second your helmet, power blaster, or any of that stuff crossed international waters it doesn't belong to disney or toei. Also when saban gave the rights over and was having that big offical auction with some of the stuff, That stuff also rightfully belongs to you, as disney did not own any of that stuff that Saban auctioned off.

Well I dont pretend to be a legal expert, but Disney is an American company, and will operate on behalf of Toei in claiming ownership as they partly own the designs in their contract with Toei.
Either way, the legalities of it are not important, there are loop holes for everything these days, and Disney have the laywer backup to make anythin stick.
This is still just a rumour though, I wouldnt worry bout the legalities of it, just accept it as a possibility and act accordingly.
